Just came back after seeing this guy live, the show was AMAZING.  :hefdaddy
Apart from the songs and the setlist being great, his talk between songs was both amusing and entertaining.
One particular funny moment was when one dude in the back shouted "DYLAN!", Kristian just told him to come up to the stage, which the guy did.
Kristian then said; "Dylan is not here dude. Dylan is old, and he's probably at home resting" (in Swedish but still), which made me giggle.  :lol
Then near the end of the show, he made a reference to that moment by saying: "People shouting Dylan, what is this, the 60's?"
Pretty funny.

In the middle of the concert, Kristian sat down at the piano, and some dude shouted "KIDS ON THE RUN!", and Kristian replied: "You really think so? I don't."
He then played a NEW SONG, which he played on the piano, and it was simply fantastic.
He actually played Kids on the Run as the closer, but he played it on the banjo, so the new song was the only one he played on the piano.
He also had some help from the opening act, "Francis", a drummer and the bass-player who performed together with him for three songs, then I think it was their singer who sang a duet with him near the end, and I also think she was his gf. (though I might have misunderstood it)

Anyhow, setlist as I remember it:

*I Won't Be Found
*Pistol Dreams
*Shallow Grave
*Where Do My Bluebirds Fly
*The Gardener
*This Wind
*The Dreamer
*Thrown Right At Me (duet)
*NEW SONG
*Troubles Will Be Gone
*You're Going Back
*The Drying of the Lawns
*The King of Spain
*Love is All
*Kids on the Run (banjo)
*Thousand Ways

Can't remember the exact order, but I'm fairly sure he played these songs.
I can probably get back tomorrow or so with the 'correct' list in the right order.
Fantastic gig though, this guy just keeps growing for me.  :hefdaddy

*snip*

Awesome, sounds like a smashing good time!

...and I can see why he wouldn't want to be likened to Dylan often, most artists don't really like having another act branded on them.  Good for him!

Yeah, a lot of acoustic folk singers probably get lumped in with/compared to Dylan. It's must be frustrating for them.

I just love it how he handled that whole situation, when he called the guy up to the stage, I thought he would hit him with his guitar or something.  :lol
But he was just like: "Sorry, but Dylan is not here" in a very calm tone.

Not sure but I think the setlist was almost or even exactly the same as the one you posted.

I love the crowd interaction he had. He also said it was a very special day because the new Bon Iver leaked and he cried about how beautifull it was. And I think he was a bit suprised about the crowd. It's a fairly big and pretty beautiful venue and on top of that the crowd just couldn't stop cheering a couple of times. He had such a big smile on his face when the crowd was still applauding after 5 minutes, it was great to see.

Sounds great!
What did you think of the new song?
The songs he played with a band, and Kids on the Run on banjo?

New song was great and he played three songs with the band I think. The King of Spain was so awesome  :hefdaddy. And King of Spain on banjo indeed :).

Sounds like it was very much like the show I saw, but it's not necessary to change concept between shows if it's working well.  :tup
Personal highlight for me was probably Love Is All, which is my favorite from The Wild Hunt.
Though it's hard to pick.

Exact same for me last night, too.  :lol

What a brilliant concert, though. King of Spain with the band was the highlight, and it was hilarious to hear the only words people knew in the verses when everyone yelled 'bar-celOOONAAA! pam-pLOOONAAA!' and then went quiet. :lol Then when everyone leaned back in unison to try and hit the final 'i wanna be THEEEEEEEEEE' it was great, Kristian was clearly loving it, too. I also thought the drums on The Dreamer worked really, really well, so I wouldn't mind him venturing into some more band-oriented stuff in the future.

He also said something offhandly when introducing the new song that got me excited, something like, 'well I've got so many new songs ready...' Did he say anything like that for you guys, or was it just me mishearing him?

He didn't say anything about new songs when I saw him, it was just like "So this is a new song", and everyone was like:  :omg:
Seeing how productive he's been since the start of his career, I'd say we'll probably get something this year, an album or an EP. (hopefully the first)

I'm pretty sure he did say he had tons ready, so I'd hope so.

I seriously think King of Spain with the whole band is one of my top live music experiences ever, it's just such a perfect live song.

I don't understand the appeal of this guy at all. It's some harmless folk/country stuff, but nothing more. I can't stand his voice, and all of his songs I've listened to are fairly interchangeable. Lyrics are alright, though, I suppose.

There are just soooooo many better singer-songwriters out there--Sarah Fimm, Conor Oberst, Tori Amos--that accomplish what he can't.

I disagree completely with the two examples you listed as being better that I've heard enough of (Oberst and Amos), but each to their own I guess.

As for me, he's actually probably in my top 10 artists of all time now. Every single time I listen to his music I find some new emotion in it, and I've listened A LOT recently, without it getting boring at all.

Fixed.

I can deal with it just fine. I'm expressing my opinion, like I always do, just like everyone else in this thread.

Odd how members on this forum do that exact same thing in the exact same way all the time, but the moment I do it, I get attacked.

I'm not attacking you, I can see the argument a bit for Oberst and definitely for Amos being better, but I just find this guy's music speaks to me way more maaaaaan.

Seriously though, he and Dylan are the only two singer-songwriters, even though I love a lot of others, that really elicit strong emotions in me when I listen. Hell, Where I Thought I Met The Angels might well be my favourite song ever.

I don't think you can use yourself as a benchmark of what is good or not, if that makes any sense. Even though you don't like the same things as other people, you still have to respect their opinion, and don't question them.

anyway, i'm done arse-talking, good night

Seriously though Zander, I'm actually pretty surprised that TMOE isn't doing it for you, he seems right up your alley. I guess if you don't like his voice though, it's kind of an unchangeable deal breaker.

I love this guy, his music is simply fantastic, and I just love it how he makes 'simple' music with so much variety, really takes creativity.
Seeing Zander bashing him completely kinda made me loose faith in humanity.  :'(
