Animal Collective
« on: August 17, 2012, 06:54:29 PM »
Only yesterday did I decide to buy Merriweather Post Pavilion due to a friend of mine who rarely steers me wrong the best album of the past 15 years. I'd already call it a solid top 50, and maybe even top 25 album. I can't put my finger on why, but something about this album just makes me overjoyed every time I listen to it, and I find it really sing-alongy. Any other fans about?

I really enjoyed MPP too. It's kinda like the Flaming Lips, but even weirder and more psychedelic. I'll definitely give Centipede Hz a spin when it comes out.

My Girls is in the discussion for catchiest chorus ever.  The last two minutes, with that chorus repeating over and over, is just totally bonkers.

Other favorites from that record are In the Flowers, Summertime Clothes and Bluish.  I think some of the songs really miss, but, man, when they connect, they really knock it out of the park.

Ha. Bluish would be my catchiest chorus. Bluish and My Girls are my favourite.

Brother Sport is all kinds of crazy fun, too.

On the flip side, something like Taste is a good example of their weirdness gone wrong.  That song is just not enjoyable on any level to me.

Welcome to 2009.  So not indie of you.

But seriously I never got the hype behind this album and band.  Whatever floats your boat though.  :)

Haha. I like Taste a lot, but to each his own. :)
