I too have seen Rod once with the Dixie Dregs, and he is an outstanding drummer. Huge smile when he drums. His solo was a highlight of the show. Also a big fan of his work in Platypus and The Jelly Jam. That first Jelly Jam album is really great. Between those acts, Winger, and his work on Kip’s solo albums, Rod has always been one of my favorite drummers.
As truly awful as a certain percentage of Winger songs are (I agree In The Heart of the Young has a big chunk of awfulness), that band really could play. Pull is the album where the band really put it all together and shed most of the worst of the 80s hair metal stuff, though even that album has its moments with some questionable lyrics. Rod has some really cool moments on that album though, including a very cool tribal drum solo on the ending of Like A Ritual.
