The Official Rhapsody Of Fire Thread!!
« on: June 17, 2010, 08:17:42 AM »
hey guy's, well i was wondering if you guy's are listening to this awesome band!!! well I am and that's how I discovered metal with the album "Dawn Of Victory" i think i was ten years old (yup a ten year old headbanger :metal ).. and now I'm still listening to them=)!!..

they make cheesy music but there orchestrations especially on Symphony Of Enchanted Lands are breathtaking and since that album I'm a freak about medieval/baroque/film score music :metal

recently they have released a new album "Frozen Tears Of Angels" and i have to say the best album since Power Of The Dragonflame and Dawn Of Victory.. Turilli show's us his beastly solo's!!!

so what do you think of this band and the new album!!!

This band has certainly had its share of let downs in terms of unoriginality and repetitiveness, but Frozen Tears of Angels is absolutely amazing.  I was afraid Turilli had lost his touch, especially considering some of that nonsense psuedo-techno solo work he has done recently.  This album has definitely reignited my flame for Rhapsody (not that I ever truly lost it).

IN THE NAME OF HOLY THUNDERFORCE!

I've been a Rhapsody fan since 8th grade, back when I discovered power metal and thought it was the coolest thing EVER! (fuck yeah awkward early teen years)

Favourite album is their debut, Legendary Tales followed by Dawn of Victory. Haven't heard their last two albums, but I might get around to them sooner or later.
I felt its length in quite a few places.

I own all their albums and have been listening to them for 11 years, so I better check in.  They've come a long way since their first two albums, and for the most part have improved with each album.

Also, they are pretty much the reason we have Christopher Lee in metal now, so that just adds to their legend.

My favorite power metal band.  I've got everything up through Power of The Dragonflame/Rain of A Thousand Flames.

They catch a bad rap for their super-cheesy lyrics, but the music itself is stellar.

I forget, is Rhapsody of Fire the band the keyboardist split off to do or the band Luca Turilli split off to do?

Loved these guys up to The Dark Secret, everything after, especially Triumph and Agony, bored me senseless.

Absolutely love Dawn Of Veektoree but when things got a bit more serious (as if it could, really!) it lost me a bit.
I enjoy Luca's solo stuff. Great guitarist- he never disappoints there.

I've been a fan of Rhapsody/Rhapsody Of Fire since Symphony Of Enchanted Lands came out.  I feel like there really is no other band like them.  Sure there are plenty of symphonic power metal bands but I feel ROF takes it to another level.  Many of the other bands people have tried to introduce me to, claiming they sound a lot like ROF, have wound up being a disappointment.  I'd love to find other bands who sound like them.

Just listened to the whole album.

After hearing the single a couple of weeks ago, I was pretty disappointed, because the lack of Luca Turilli's influence was obvious.
Luckily the rest of the album is a bit better, but that absence is still very obvious. It doesn't sound much like Rhapsody. That in itself isn't all bad, but it's definitely lacking.
There's still a lot of the usual fast single note riffing that I expect from Rhapsody, but it's not as memorable. I'm not used to hearing standard metal riffing! After the first listen, nothing sticks in my head, except for the Sea of Fate section in Angel of Light (which I hope was intentional!). The vocal melodies aren't as strong, and the riffing is plain. The guitarist is also a little sloppy. He's not bad, but the faster sweeping arpeggios often sound like he's at the very edge of his capabilities.

Based on their first albums since the split, I have to give the first round victory easily to Luca Turilli here.
Only King could mis-spell a LETTER.

I never really could get into Rhapsody to be honest.  I like Fabio though so I gave the track a listen.  Pretty standard power metal affair and definitely not as bombastic and layered as older Rhapsody.  Not bad though.

That doesn't leave me with much hope.  I love the older Rhapsody material with the amazingly and beautifully orchestrated sound.

I'd heard this was less Dawn of Victory and more Triumph and Agony, so I'll give it a pass. Looks like Luca's Rhapsody wins this battle.

BUMP because Gargoyles, Angels of Darkness just came up on shuffle and I was like OMFG :metal :metal :metal. I can't stand the long narration section, but I cut it out on my version, so I now have 12 minutes of pure awesomeness. I think it's the only Rhapsody song where all three solos have a distinct style and are all awesome.

Listening to Power of the Dragonflame again now. Fucking awesome album. Knightrider of Doom fucking slays. DAT INTRO RIFF

Saruman now has a mind of metal.

Rhapsody of Fire had an big streak of amazing albums (Symphony of Enchanted Lands/Dawn of Victory/Rain of a Thousand Flames/Power of the Dragonflame) among others and are, still, a classic reference of symphonic power metal. There's no band in the genre that comes close to the majestic sound of these guys.

Also, was I the only one that really liked Dark Wings of Steel? Yeah, you feel that Luca's gone, and it's different from the other Rhapsody (of Fire) stuff, but it thoroughly brilliant anyway, in my opinion. Angel of Light is one of my favourite Rhapsody tunes ever.

I used to listen to alot of Rhapsody. The first album I heard was Legendary Tales followed by Symphony of Enchanted Lands. I think Land Of Immortals was the first song. Never heard anything as epic and pompous at that point. After SoEL part II I kind of lost interest in the band and power metal in general.

Symphony of Enchanted Lands II

New song is slightly better than what I remember of the last album, but still pretty bland without Luca. The vocals are sounding a bit strained too, and I don't like the growly-ness.

Luca Turilli's first album since the split has been the only one I've liked so far. Yet another band split that has resulted in diminished results from both sides.

I found the last album very forgettable generic power metal without Luca Turilli's distinct style. I didn't dislike it, but I can't remember a thing about it at all.
The new song is an improvement in sounding more like Rhapsody, but some of the melodies are directly out of another Rhapsody song.

I've never looked for originality in power metal. :lol I just found the similarity obvious.

I do expect this album will be an improvement over the previous one though, so hopefully I'll be able to get into it.

Been a fan since pretty much day one.
Pretty much love nearly everything that they have done, though not every album has been brilliant.
The only one I don't have it the last one, didn't get good reviews so I passed.

I love both LTR album's they are killer and the one that came out this year, is perhaps one of his best ever albums IMO.

I don't care if they rip themselves off, as long as they do it well, with lots of fast drums and cheesy lyrics.

I loved Ascending To Infinity as much as anything else they've done, but the second one lost me with the scifi diarrhea lyrics and over the top pretentiousness even for Rhapsody. :lol

Lyrics aren't important to me, but there was that one part of the first single that jumped out so much with random scifi words put together and it was a little distracting. I prefer my power metal lyrics firmly rooted in medieval times. :lol
