2011/12 Setlist Predictions Thread
« on: June 05, 2010, 09:24:15 PM »
Just wondering what people want to hear from the prog gods, if you could only pick one song for them to do.
Personally I hope they do ItNoG, of course with Petrucci's mind blowing solo at the end.
I agree with previous posters that Bruce Dickenson should sing for it too; there would be no end to the :metal

Word is that DT is not bringing out any new songs this tour, so it be basically be repeats of PN09/10 shows. Fortunately for you, they played In the Name of God as a show closer at various shows, so you may end up seeing it after all.

Going by what they played during the PN09/10 shows, I want the opposite of the set I saw in Montreal.
Instead of TDOE/OLT I'd like The Mirror/Lie or Erotomania/Voices
Instead of As I Am I'd Like ITNOG, Metropolis or Take the Time
And I'd like to see Wither.

If this is from what they were touring off of, it would probably be As I Am or The Count of Tuscany. If it is in general, seeing Home would probably be one of the single most awesome musical experiences I could ever hope to experience.

there are so many but I would have to go with ACoS

also just because they are doing repeats from the past two tours, I still doubt we will see songs like Voices, in the end DT is trying to attract Iron Maiden fans (god dammit) and probably wont play something like that

It will probably be this boring set

As I Am
Constant Motion
A Rite of Passage
Wither
Panic Attack
Metropolis (ok well at least this song is awesome)

I havn't sehem this tour, so when I see them in Jult, I'd love to see The Count Of Tuscany.  As for an older song I'd love to hear Overture 1982,  Strange Déjà Vu, Through My Words.  It's been since the SFAM tour.

I'd love to hear "Beyond This Life" again. I saw it on Progressive Nation 2009, and it was my favorite Dream Theater song at the time (and still might be). It has incredibly heavy parts, and then incredibly soft parts. Magnificent.

I think it's time that they bring back more:
Scenes from a Memory songs. They'll play maybe 1-2 each tour, but I like to see a series of songs again.
1st CD SDOIT songs. The Glass Prison is inevitable what with the 12-step suite imminent in live form. Also The Great Debate is a song I NEED to hear live before DT call it quits.
Falling into Infinity gets a fairly decent rotation setup, considering its not popular in the band's eyes. Still, hearing a song like LiTS, ToT, or Hells Kitchen would be great.
And, it's wishful thinking, but something from WDADU would be great sometime soon.

Long story short, I want to see more middle albums get played. They covered the recent ones fairly well on the last few tours. And I&W and Awake also got some good coverage as of late. Get some FII-SDOIT in the setlists.

I want them to play Hell's kitchen!!

and next time they do LITS they should put Hell's kitchen before it instead of a keyboard solo! They've done that on all tours with that song now.

Most of the stuff that I have wanted to see live they have played (The Mirror/Lie just got crossed off my list on this tour)-  the following are the top songs I still have yet to see them play live:

6:00
The Glass Prison
The Shattered Fortress
These Walls
ITNOG in it's entirety
Dear Santa,
Please kill Icy for Christmas.

Love,

Everyone

A Change of Seasons. I would kill, rape, pillage, smile cannon, etc, to hear that song live, as it is my favourite track of all time.

But really, there are a lot of songs I'd love to hear. As much as I've absolutely loved the two Dream Theater shows I've seen, the setlists have really only been so-so. Here's a list of the songs I've seen Dream Theater play live*, and how I rank them along with the rest of their catalogue (a bit out of date, but nevertheless):

3 - A Nightmare to Remember
9 - The Count of Tuscany
13 - The Dance of Eternity
43 - Constant Motion
54 - One Last Time
59 - Panic Attack
60 - Pull Me Under
65 - Hollow Years (extended)**
67 - A Rite of Passage x2
69 - Home
77 - Prophets of War
80 - As I Am x2

* - I've also seen Solitary Shell (extended), but I rank Six Degrees as one song so I don't have an individual ranking for SS.
** - This ranking applies to the studio version.
