Really like the idea of a lot of those songs in the "rumoured" setlist.  It'll be great to see RUSH do Passapge to Bangkok, Jacob's Ladder and The Camera Eye... since I've seen DT do all of those.  Would also love to see Cold Fire ... my favorite from CP - miles better than Stick it Out.

Not sure why the four album stretch of Presto/RtB/CP/T4E doesn't get much love.  Just re-listened to them all recently, and they are as good as the 80s albums.

Presto and Test for Echo are both somewhat weak overall, although both have a couple of standout songs.  Plus, neither sounds that great - Presto is too thin and bottomless from a low end standpoint, and Test for Echo sounds too cluttery and jumbled, as opposed to the terrific sound of CP.

Roll the Bones has a few weaker songs ("Face Up" and "You Bet Your Life") but the five songs they have played from it live are all at least very good, and "Heresy" is a nice and widely overlooked good songs, and I like "The Big Wheel" quite a bit, as well.  "Neurotica" needed a much stronger chorus, but I like the vibe going on in the verses.  From start to finish, RtB is a very nice listen.

But, yeah, CP is the obvious standpoint of that four-album stretch.

From those four Roll the Bones is my favorite, followed closely by Counterparts. The main reason I love Roll the Bones more than most Rush fans is that I genuinely like all the songs on the album, even those considered filler by many.

Well, Presto is maybe lower than CP, having just listened to CP again.
I think Roll the Bones has stronger songs overall. The singles from RTB are waaayyy better then those from CP (with the exception of Nobodys Hero). Test for Echo is really underrated and has some terrific songs on it.
Overall, CP doesnt have that many interesting songs on it.

The Great Stuff
Nobody's Hero
Alien Shore
Between Sun and Moon
Leave that Thing Alone

The OK Stuff
Animate
Stick it Out
Cut to the Chase
Cold Fire

The Not Good Stuff
The Speed of Love
Everyday Glory

Garbage
Double Agent

Whereas, I consider Presto, Roll the Bones, and Test for Echo to have far more enjoyable songs on it.
There are a lot of reasons, really.

I guess I'm a little biased on those four albums, as I *truly* started getting into Rush with the release of Chronicles in '90... which was followed by picking up the subsequent albums as they came out (and Presto was still on the front of the shelves).  Yes, they have their weak moments, and I guess my acoustic pallet is not discerning enough to pick apart the flaws of the sound quality.

Those four albums have some really good songs in there, especially Presto, which is my favorite from that particular period. My favorites from the era:

The Pass
Scars
Hand over fist
Available light
Dreamline
Roll the bones
Nobody's hero
Leave that thing alone
Between sun and moon
Driven
Virtuality
Time and motion

Yeah Time and Motion automatically makes Test for Echo better than Counterparts.

Time and Motion is good, but not that good.

IMO, the ranking of those four would be:
Counterparts>Roll the Bones>Presto=Test for Echo

But all of them still slay Vapour Trails.

Yes they do.
And Time and Motion is great. Best track on Test for Echo, and among my favourites from the 90s. That track convinced me to give Test for Echo another spin, and I soon realized how good the album is.

I'd rather hear Freewill live more than Tom Sawyer every day of the week ond twice on Sunday, but how much longer can Geddy sing "Each of us.... a cELL of awareness...?"

I love the first four Atlantic albums. I don't care if the band doesn't like Presto, I love it (Although it probably means we'll never hear Available Light played live).

I'm surprised Geddy could still sing so high like that on the album.  If we get a song from Presto, it will probably be "The Pass," which is fine by me.

I just got my Entertainment Weekly and they have a review of the Rush Documentary.  I know it shouldn't bother me but for years, even when Rush got good reviews,(like this movie) they seem to always throw in a few jabs at them.  It makes my blood boil when I read songthing like this.

It would be hard to think of a rock & roll band with more chops, and fewer hooks, than Rush. Formed in 1968, this legendary Toronto trio invented its own thick, spiky brew of early-metal prog showmanship (think Led Zeppelin without...you know, tunes).

All that in the first paragraph, what a champ.

At least reading some of the comments made me feel warm and fuzzy inside.

Pretty much what a lot of people said in the comments is very legitimate criticism: He spent a couple of sentences on the actual movie and the rest of it dissing Rush's music.  As one of the posters said: "How fitting that you're calling the band shit in a review of a movie about how they've endured for forty years with the mainstream against them."  Of course when (or if) he reads those comments, he's just going to chalk it up to crazed Rush fans, which may be the case, but doesn't make the above criticism any less valid.

Blah, blah, blah.  Rush is critics' biggest defeat ever.  They have collectively been trashing Rush for literally DECADES...and it hasn't made a bit of difference.  Rush has been very popular for most of their career (No, not U2 or Zeppelin popular, but still very popular), their music has stood the test of time, and they continue to put a lot of butts in the seats.  You know that drives critics crazy, and they continue to flail away at the band, as if anyone actually gives a crap what they think.

It's been very strange the last six months while the band's profile has been raised. I'm not used to having all of this candy easily accessible and in large quantities. Really does a number on the music budget.

I think that as the press looks around now, there are only a handful of cross generational bands that are still really drawing, and Rush is one of them. With so much competition in the press, they certainly seem more willing to hitch their wagons to a band like Rush.
This is why the RnR HOF will happen.
