Is this now the "lol vanden plas" thread? Cause I'm cool with that.

I don't think I've heard a single Vanden Plas song.

edit: just saw the cover art for Christ 0.

I don't think I need to hear anything from them.

Here's a hilariously unintelligible review of Christ 0:

I don't want to be a negative nancy, but Be almost completely turned me off of PoS. I had never listened to them before I began posting here. Seeing how much people on this board love them I decided to check out one of their albums on Myspace. I chose Be partly because of how hard TheVoxyn's dick gets whenever anyone mentions the album. ( :P ) I didn't like it, and I still don't. I assumed incorrectly that their other albums are similar in style and avoided them for a while. I eventually gave TPE and Remedy Lane a chance and I'm glad I did. I love PoS now.

I'm still going to stay away from Be for a while though. My plan is to revisit it after I'm familiar with every other album first, to see if that alters my opinion of it at all.

:lol

Considering sigging that.

But yea. BE is awesome, but the worst album to start with.

I'm guessing it's akin to trying to get someone into Yes with Tales From Topographic Oceans?

I think what threw me off was that I was expecting prog metal in the same vein as DT, Opeth, etc. and by the time I got to track 4 and there was no actual metal (apart from the guitar in track 2), it confused me.

Very good analogy.

To bring the topic off-course again, Vanden Plas is pretty awesome actually.
Orion....that's the one with a bunch of power chords and boringly harsh vocals, isn't it?

Ignore the nay-sayers BE is an absolute masterpiece.
"Once he had forests and mountains that were only his - listening to him. Once he would run through the summer days catching memories for ages to come. Now he is dressing this naked floor with his flesh and blood, and time passes by. His trade of pain might just have lead him to deal with consequence for some change as time passes by"

My head hurts. :(

But to get on topic again: I'm with the yay-sayers: BE is awesome in every possible way that matters. And I don't feel like elaborating on that right now, perhaps later.

Although I'm not a Be fan, I have something to say after reading the OP.
Remedy Lane:  After about 8 listens this album is GODLIKE, Trace of Blood is one of the greatest things ever.

TRACE OF BLOOD IS THE BEST PAIN OF SALVATION SONG EVERRRR SCREW UNDERTOWWWWWWWWWWWWWW.

Well Undertow is awesome too, but then Trace of Blood is kinda underrated while Undertow is easily the most overrated PoS song ever.

I would say from what I've read and heard, Undertow is a tad overrated.  A brilliant song, but a little overrated, especially with tracks like Trace of Blood, Rope Ends and Waking Every God.

The transition from POS to Vanden Plas was seemless  :lol

I actually own Christ 0.  I saw it cheap and without knowing the band saw they were on InsideOut so decided to give it a go.  I think I have listened to tracks 1-6 once, that's it.  Not necessarily bad, just plain, unoriginal and unexciting.  i guess if I gave it more time it might get better, but.....nah.

A few years ago I was listening to Be quite a bit. I really liked it. But faded away and i never ended up getting more into PoS.

The concept of Be is something I find very inspiring. I'm talking about the story. I'm surprised to find so many PoS fans don't like it. I'v never seen the live DVD, but the album i have. And I think it's the work of a very ambitious and unique visionary.

Wow, this is an old thread. Why do i keep doing this?

Yeah man, surprised to see this pop up on the first page.  I didn't know I have been into POS for that long, man time flies.  Great memories of discovering this band.
