I play upside down.

I'm left-handed, and play a right-handed guitar, strung as is, simply slung upside down.
I have an entirely unique approach to playing, especially with strumming patterns and such.
I've met or known of a handful of guys that do this, but it doesn't seem to be all that common.

Doyle Bramhall II plays like this...I can't even imagine how you guys do it!

I don't use 8 gauge strings because I'm a pussy, I use them because they make bending easy, and I don't want the actual simple mechanics of guitar playing to be hard before I've even started playing.

I put that picture up because the guy said "I play upside down" and I wanted to show him what it really means to play upside down.  It's Puciato from the Dillinger Escape Plan, and it is NOT a photoshop...

Oh man there's a HUGE list of weird things I do when I'm playing. When I use a wah pedal, my mouth makes wah motions while my foot's moving. When I'm playing a badass riff I'll do this weird crab walk. Idk how to describe it except like, I walk while I'm playing but I'm still in my low stance so I look like a crab walking...I guess. That's how people that have seen it describe it. When I'm about to hit a big power chord I don't jump and do it, I sprained my ankle doing that a few years back. Instead, I lift my left leg up, lean back, rear my head back and do a roar, THEN hit the power chord. I also have a bad habit of randomly pointing into the crowd and smiling. People go up to me after the show and say DUDE YOU POINTED AT ME AM I SPECIAL and I say haha yeah but in reality, it's just a habit I have to get in touch with the audience.

That's not even half of it man, I'll keep adding when I remember more stuff.

I have so much fun doing stuff like this. Apparently I do a lot of one face that people say is my grinning "Devin-face" or "Strapping Young Lad-face". :lol
I don't have any photos of me doing it, and I think they could mean any one of these faces:

The favourite is still the Gene Simmons approach though

The wah-wah mouth thing is way more common than you may realize.  I do it all the time.  Often even when I'm not using a wah, my mouth will still move during solos, like I'm talking, but I have absolutely no idea I'm doing it until I see it on video.  :lol

Ah, I guess it depends on what music you're playing. When I'm doing more pop-rock stuff then it's less... erm... demonic... :P

My wife tells me that if I hit a bad note, my mustache twitches.  I don't "make faces" when I play, but a bum note will make me grimace, and the mustache accentuates that.  Which sucks!  (Actually, it's not so bad, since no one can ever hear the keyboards anyway.  People just think I'm making faces.)

I love the "random eye contact" thing.  Nothing psyches up a fan more than when you look them right in the eye while you're playing.  You're playing to them! I spend at least half my time on stage gazing into the audience and staring down random people.  If they see me and we connect, I smile, they smile, and I move on.

(The other half of the time is spent checking out random babes.  They're always gazing at the singer or guitarist, though, so no eye contact is ever made.  That's okay; I can stare longer at the hot ones without fear of getting caught.)

Yeah that makes sense. I'm in a ska band so it's much more lighthearted and happy.

That's true Orbert, but when you're the singer it doesn't matter if hot babes catch you looking at them because you're the singer :hat

Plus it's way easier to look down their tops if you're on a stage riser. :lol :tup

Lots of drummers do that, it gives them more power on the snare... i think zildjian makes sticks designed for that, theyre rounded on both ends.

8's?! WTF.

I love the beefy tone and feel thicker strings give. I could never.
