5416 songs... I really wish I had the money to buy everything legally, but I'm only 18 and currently do not have a job.
Wow...
What's wrong with that? I couldn't afford to buy lots of albums when I was in school but I've bought about 99% of all the albums that I "obtained" and actually liked since then. I will be buying that 1% I haven't got yet, by the way.
It's that "I can't afford it, so I'll just steal it" attitude that is so prevalent with far too many people these days.
But it's totally understandable in every way. A passion for music shouldn't be determined by how rich you are.
No one said that, and no, it is not totally understandable in every way. How would you like it if the work you created, the work that you do for a living, was stolen by people instead of them paying for it? I am guessing you wouldn't like it all.
The way I see it, downloading is like borrowing a CD from someone or having someone rip a copy for you, which EVERYONE has done: If you like what you hear, go out and buy a copy of it, instead of sticking with your ripped copy or your downloaded mp3s. There are many, many positives to downloading, but the biggest drawback is people just downloading and then not buying what they like. On the flip side, all of the record companies are knuckleheads for not adapting to the downloading culture a little quicker. Had they, they might be in better shape right now.
Not trying to be off topic here, but given the intent of the thread, it is inevitable that this kind of chatter will take place, especially when people talk about having a bunch of music they didn't pay for.
