seriously, they couldn't be bothered to tune the guitar before recording an album?

Iommi used 9's tuned down a step and a half due to his lack of finger tips for this era of Sabbath. See how easy it is to keep that shit in tune ;)

It just sounds like standard Iommi tuning to me.  He's never sounded like traditional guitarists.

I'd imagine it's tough to play with prosthetic fingertips.

I see that, but the issue with this recording is that one string is significantly off its intended tuning. I'm just amazed they wouldn't fix it before recording.

God damnit I freaking love that song.  I hear nothing wrong with the guitar sound... typically muddy doomy Iommi style.

This sounds the same to me, and it's live from many years later.  Granted, I don't have great pitch.  Is the same tuning present?

Also, I tried to listen to the SoaD version, and like everything else they did, it's shit.

Sounds great to me.
Cole: "Ow I just got hit in the balls"
Me: "How?"
Cole: "Well you know when you try to scratch your balls, and you scratch too hard?
I'll admit sometimes I want to listen to Dragonforce.

WTF is this thread on about? The song is fantastic, I love it to death, I love Black Sabbath and Tony Iommi to death also and this
Iommi used 9's tuned down a step and a half due to his lack of finger tips for this era of Sabbath. See how easy it is to keep that shit in tune ;)
And this.
It just sounds like standard Iommi tuning to me.  He's never sounded like traditional guitarists.

I've been in many fail threads but this one is just absurd.

I dunno if you got that far into the song rumby, but

"Don't you think I know what I'm doing?
Don't tell me that I'm doing it wrong.
You're the one who's really the loser

HA!"

 :lol

I've always found that verse really strange. Despite the fact that the song presents a negative image of cocaine use, you have a verse in the middle that gets all defensive about it. It could be criticism of someone who holds that position, but it doesn't really feel like it to me.

Man forget Snowblind. Supernaut is the best Black Sabbath riff.

Though this was probably not rumby's intention, I didn't care for Black Sabbath before, and now I want to get more into them.

I love Black Sabbath (Ozzy-era) and I find nothing wrong with the guitars in this or any other of their songs. I don't have perfect pitch but I find it really strange that they wouldn't tune their instruments right for an album recording.

Why the fuck are we bagging Snowblind??  Sounds great to me, always has, and if I recall I think Iommi is tuned to C# for this song.
Everyone else, except Wolfking is wrong.

You guys make me sad, that you don't hear it  :-[

It's brutally clear at for example 6.5 seconds in, where Tony plays the arpeggiated chord. One string is tooootally out of tune there.

Or it could be that some of us don't care. ;)  Listening to it, I always thought that little part sounded totally cool.  If it is the result of an out of tune guitar, I say, big deal.  It sounds good, regardless.  Flaws like that often give songs character. :tup :tup

Maybe because they liked the sound they got?   If that tuning was unintentional when they recorded the take, they could easily have re-done the take with the 'correct' tuning.  Iommi probably liked the way it came out and just left it as is.

Or maybe they were so coked-up at the time that they couldn't be arsed.

Definitely do this.  The album that Snowblind is on (Vol. 4) is great, so if you like this song definitely get that album, and any other of their first 6 Ozzy-era albums (S/T, Paranoid, Master of Reality, Sabbath Bloody Sabbath, and Sabotage).  It's all classic stuff.

It's the open G string that he hits. Those always sound out of whack, especially between fretted notes on other strings. Even more so when down-tuned. It's really not as awful as you think. I mean sure, I've always noticed it's a bit off, but it isn't so bad that it hinders my enjoyment. I'm thinking it's due to double-tracking and Iommi not re-tuning between takes.
