Well, I guess Megadeth decided to take from Anvl's bag of naming albums. Anvil's thirteenth album was called "This Is Thirteen". Or maybe Dave is a fan of that show, Numb3rs.

There's always a method to Dave's madness, so to speak. So I'm thinking "TH1RT3EN" is much deeper than it appears on the surface.

Where was it announced with that spelling? He only said it out loud at Sonisphere.

Anyway, Megadeth put on a really good show at the festival! The new song I didn't find very exciting to be honest, but the set list was top-notch and they performed really well. But best of all was that they had the second highest amount of women exposing their boobs for the screens out of all bands at the festival, behind Limp Bizkit.

I'm not a fan of Megadeth, other than the fact that I own Countdown to Extinction (pretty good, IMO), and I haven't even read this thread before now, but I sensed boobs were being discussed and felt compelled to pop in and post. I :heart boobs

https://www.roadrunnerrecords.com/news/Megadeth-Announce-Release-Date-For-TH1RT3EN-23232.aspx

Quote
Megadeth have made it official: Their 13th studio album, TH1RT3EN, will be released on November 1, 2011. Says singer and guitarist Dave Mustaine, "This record is the culmination of my work over the 13 records I recorded. There are moments on TH1RT3EN that capture my every emotion, and other moments where I am releasing feelings I never knew existed! My proudest moments of my musical career are captured on TH1RT3EN.”
TH1RT3EN also marks the recorded return of bassist Dave Ellefson, who was part of the band's classic lineup from 1983 to 2002. In a move that delighted the band's legion of diehards, Ellefson returned to performing live with Megadeth in early 2010 and has remained a fixture on the stage ever since. This is the first time Ellefson has played on a Megadeth record since 2002's Rude Awakening.

The album's title has several layers of meaning, which leader and guitar deity Mustaine, who first picked up an axe at the age of 13, revealed in a recent chat with RollingStone.com, saying, "I was born on September 13th; this is my thirteenth record. It just seemed like it was the right thing to do to call it TH1RT3EN."

The band has spent the summer killing it on the main stage of the fourth annual Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival tour, and they'll cap that off by performing as part of "The Big 4" once again, this time in New York at Yankee Stadium alongside Metallica, Slayer and Anthrax. The only previous "Big 4" show in the U.S. took place in April in Southern California.

The band recorded an original track, "Never Dead," specifically for the NeverDead action-adventure video game franchise; that song will appear on TH1RT3EN, as will "Sudden Death," which the band recorded for Guitar Hero: Warriors Of Rock.

Definitely looking forward to this.  I doubt it'll be the next RIP, but I see no point in comparing it with their earlier stuff; if it's good, it'll be good, and that's the key.  If it's anything like UA and Endgame, I'll find it good.

UA and Endgame are easily my favorite Megadeth albums since RIP.  Though Countdown has its fair share of goodness.  (Ashes In Your Mouth, namely)

I kinda thought it couldn't get cheesier than UA coverart but I was wrong heh
It's more mature than the UA cover art, I thought that UA looked like a power metal/prog. metal band's type of art that wrote about politics instead.

Dave better be right about this album being "the best thing they've made since Rust In Peace". I mean come, Countdown and CW were pretty good imo. I hope Endgame is as good as he says!

He says that about every album.

Just bumping this quote to state that I stand by it now.

So do you mean the art was released and cheesy?

Or that 13 better be the best since Rust?

Or that Dave always promises that, regardless of the truth?

when Endgame came out, "the right to go insane" made me crazy... a killer song I thought... but it's been highly underrated...
they couldn't pull off the video though  :-\

Yep its a great song, and I liked the video too. Metal bands normally have terrible videos.
