Best songs on SFSGSW are Darkest Hour, Hook In Mouth, and Set The World Afire

Gross.

I bet Metallica saw that and thus record their rendition.

That's not a bad version, but I've never really been a fan of the song overall. The solos are sick, but the drumming is only so-so, the lyrics seem uninspired, and the vocals are so whiny. I usually really dig Mustaine's vocals, but his delivery in Hook in Mouth really bothers me.

That's awesome!

How does everyone feel about So Far So Good So What? It doesn't seem to get much love. It's my personal favorite. I really got into Megadeth when it came out. The only throwaway track is Anarchy, and 502 is OK, but evertything else is gold.

To me, that was the ultimate Megadeth lineup.  Yeah, Nick was a great drummer and was perfectly suited to Megadeth.  But if his drumming in Megadeth would be considered a 9.9/10, I would consider Jimmy's to be 10.5/10.  AND they still had Marty on guitar.  Man, I wish I had seen them during that period.

With Y&T.  And I've got a couple DVD's of him with Alice and Megadeth.  Have you seen Menza live? I'll take Menza's performance from RIP over Degrasso's TWNAH.

Jimmy's drumming on TWNAH is nothing close to what he's capable of.

When Dave reformed Megadeth, he really should have asked Jimmy back.

Yup.  Phenominal.  I always thought he was the perfect drummer for Megadeth.  Until I heard them with Jimmy...  :)

I'll take Menza's performance from RIP over Degrasso's TWNAH.

Hey, if that's your preference, that's your preference.  It's not like there's anything wrong with either one of them.  Personal preferences aside, I still think Jimmy is the better of the two in terms of both skil land creativity.  But, again, when you are comparing two guys with such talent, who cares?

I'll have to study up on Degrasso. He's just never really struck me as this immense talent. I mean, he's come a long way from his Y&T days, he's never jumped out at me as anything special.

Ah, okay.  Well, given how straightforward the drum tracks on most standard '80s metal songs, what he did on Contagious was extremely creative and experimental for that genre.  And if you have Ten, keep in mind that it's not Jimmy on that album (even though he is credited and his picture is in the booklet).  It's actually Steve Smith.  Where you really start to see his creativity is on the two "reunion" albums in the late '90s.  But even then, it sounds like whoever was recording him really didn't know how to record drums that well.  I love his contributions in Megadeth.  Even though the albums he played on are near the bottom of most fans' lists and you may not like the albums or the individual songs that much, try listening again and just focusing on the drum tracks and what he is doing.

Yes.  Not sure what the issue was specifically because Dave has intentionally been very cryptic about it whenever it has come up.  But from what he has said, apparently, Jimmy and the producer they were working with had a huge blowup, and then for whatever reason, Jimmy just could not get his head in the game and sit down and drum.  He bowed out.  They called Smith as a session drummer.  Smith liked Jimmy's drum parts and kept most of them intact, but it's still a drummer with a different style playing them.  Not to mention the fact that they just aren't recorded well and lack punch.
