Hmmmmmmmm.. There are those tool thingos that show you your "milestone" play. 1000th > 1500th, etc. I've only seen that for total plays for your whole Last.fm. For bands? I have no clue mate.

Well, I'm listening to Peace Sells now.  On "Devil's Island" right now.  Man, the two Daves beat Metallica in the great thrash war singlehandedly in my book.  Ride and Master are good albums, and I like what I've heard from the black album (the hits), but so far, Peace Sells and Rust in Peace are nothing but gold, and they're much more energetic than the Metallica stuff.  I just want to run around and punch all of my neighbors in the face.

Plus the riffs are just more interesting, esp. on Rust.  I'm kind of scared to check out Countdown, since the only track I've heard from that is Symphony of Destruction, which sounds a lot slower and straightforward.

Man, it's so awesome to see someone who agrees with me about Megadeth's catalog being far superior than Metallica's (I know there's a few of you out there, but hell, we have one more now. :D). There really is no comparison. Metallica were humping the pentatonic scale's leg for years, while Megadeth was already way ahead of the game.

Don't let Symphony scare you. I love that song, but it's DEFINITELY the most mainstream and simple song on the album. You will not be disappointed.
Orion....that's the one with a bunch of power chords and boringly harsh vocals, isn't it?

All right, cool.  Don't use me as an example of someone who likes Megadeth's catalog as a whole better than Metallica's, I only have two albums from them each :P

I find it kind of funny that Dave started Megadeth to start a band that would be better than Metallica.  He wrote better music, but depending on your definition of "band," he kinda failed.  :lol

EDIT: Oh man that bass/drum break in "Bad Omen" was so damn cool.  And so is the following riff.

I think that's part of the reason Megadeth has been so consistently good. Metallica have been sitting on the same lackluster musicians (with the exception of Cliff) for 27 years. Megadeth's lineup has been refreshed and rejuvenated so many times that the albums all sound unique.

Yeah, but I personally find it hard to take a "band" seriously when its really one guy writing all the music with a nearly constant revolving door of members.  I can take Opeth a bit more seriously as a band than just Mikael's thing, mostly because of Martin Mendez and Per Wiberg (who's been with the band, though not an official member since BWP, right?).  I'm not really sure if that makes sense, just one of those "main guy overshadowing everyone else" sort of thing.

I suppose the difference with Devin Townsend is that it's his "solo" project by name, whereas with bands like Megadeth, it's basically a guy's solo project under the guise of being a "band."

Was going to say this.  The one time Devin actually had a band, they were the same members between both albums.

Well, Dave Ellefson was the bass player for nearly the first 20 years of Megadeth (and has recently returned), and Marty Friedman played lead for around 9 years.  So there have definitely been significant stretches where it has been more of a band and less Mustaine and friends.  But with all the changes in the past decade, I could see why one might feel that way.  Maybe because they always seemed like a true band in the 90's, which is when I first became a fan, it's easier for me to still see them that way.

I saw Megadeth live for the first time this year with Anthrax and Slayer. It was a great show. Met Chris Broderick afterward and he was very cool. Their show was TIGHT.

Megadeth catalogs are favored by guitar players and Metallica catalog is favored by normal listeners.

MEGADETH, ANTHRAX Bassists Talk About Signature Models, 'Big Four' Tour - Jan. 22, 2011

It's funny how subtly every member of the Big 4 have been hinting at a United States tour. Watch the last thirty-five seconds.

Of course they're hinting, it will happen!

The only thing is, where will it happen? When you have Slayer, Megadeth, and Anthrax, you can't fill a 6000 seat amphitheater, but when you throw Metallica into it all, you can fill stadiums.

Depending on what time of year, they could either play Madison Square Garden (20,000 people) or Yankee Stadium (52,000 people). Those are my guesses.

If it's a very short tour and this stop is their only East Coast stop than probably YS.

You answered your own question. If they have Metallica, they will fill stadiums, therefore, they will play stadiums. Playing anything else is extraordinarily stupid.
