I feel just the opposite. To me, Endgame ranks as my #3 Megadeth album after SFSGSW and RIP.

I just couldn't dig it, it did absolutely nothing for me.  Boring songs, no interesting hooks, just generic run of the mill Megadeth.
Everyone else, except Wolfking is wrong.

I definitely find Endgame to be the best since Youthanasia.

If you dug Sweating Bullets, try giving the album "Countdown To Extinction" a spin :)

You need Killing Is My Business, Peace Sells, and Rust In Peace. Go get 'em!

Interesting to hear just the rhythm over that part. Nice sound for a practice amp.

It's a Peavey Vypyr 15watt; probably one of the best gear investments I've ever made. It beats turning on the half stack all the time, especially since I can't have it loud, and loud tube amps = sound better.

Countdown and Youthanasia called -- they want to know what you're smoking?  Hell, Cryptic Writings might even be on the line.

I'm trying to figure out what you mean, because if it's that those albums are better than Endgame, then that's exactly what UMH is saying.

See, he meant what I thought he meant.  Ok, sure, I can semi-understand low feelings for CW, but ranking Endgame over Countdown and Youthanasia just doesn't fly with me.

You know after reading your first post a couple of hours ago, I went back and listened to it and CW back-to-back.  Yes, the shredding and riffing on EG is amazing, but, to me, the album lacks a lot in melodies, particularly vocal melodies.  I think that's why I love those 90's albums so much -- because they had the catchiest melodies.  And that's just a preference I have with a lot of my metal (though not all).

I totally agree with you there. The vocals in that period were Mustaine's best, bar none. However, the music in that time period lacked the energy and the fury that Endgame has. That's the aspect that really sends it home for me. Mustaine hasn't sounded that focused in a really long time.

I therefore theorize that RIP is the closest to the best of both worlds, where his vocals had improved but the music was still top-notch.  At least for you.  That's kind of where I put Countdown -- as the perfect marriage between earlier Megadeth and later, more commercial Megadeth.

Countdown to Extinction and Youthanasia are musically VERY MATURE albums compared to its predecessors. While Endgame is... better than everything later than Youthanasia, it fails to outgrow those 2 CLASSICS in any way.

Therefore, Endgame is a more mature version of Rust in Peace.

Again, making it better than Countdown and Youth.

Indeed.  I think we've taken this particular discussion as far as it will go.

Therefore, on a new note: "Holy Wars" and "Hangar 18" may be the best one-two punch to open any album ever  :metal :metal :metal

But "Ghost Of Perdition" doesn't punch straight out of the gate; it has that little acoustic intro.  I guess in my mind I was thinking of songs that really hit it right from the first second.  Maybe a silly criteria, but that was my frame of mind when I made the statement.
