No. :P We the People is better.

Surrender freedom, your Social Security

I find most of the lyrics on this album are pretty angsty and like...immature for a 50 year old. Good album, but yeah.

Well, Dave Mustain is pretty angsty and immature for a 50 year old.  This should not come as a surprise.  :lol

Just picked this album up on Friday.  After only two spins, I'll say this:  I'm not really sure what I think of it as an album.  But it is the first album from Megadeth in awhile that I have actually wanted to come back and listen to because I've had the hooks in my head vs. feeling like I should come back and listen to because it's Megadeth.  I think that bodes extremely well for this album.  And I think the album art is pretty cool.  Love the clock on the CD tray.  But for those of us who haven't been paying close attention, has Mustaine been giving hints of this being a farewell album/tour?  Seeing Rattlehead in a casket gives off that vibe.

If I've noticed anything it's that Dave loves to play with the idea of throwing in the towel. He's been doing it since TSHF. Questioning the future and such. Possibly before that, but 2004 was when I became a 'follower' of the band, if you will.

13 has been interesting for me. Huuuge Megadeth fan here, absolutely adore the band. I echo how you feel bosk with this album making me want to came back for more. I love Endgame for it's brutality and technicality, but I didn't want to re-listen to it this much!

13 is chock-full of hooky riffs and lyrics, it's fun to sing along. The production sounds a little more organic when compared to the last several releases.

I really can't wait to continue learning this album on guitar ;D

Side note: Millenium Of The Blind - I love the re-work. Dave brought out some qualities in an already great demo. Fucking haunting song. I love all the water references.

It's a pretty cool album, just the usual Megadeth. Favorites: Deadly nightshade, Whose life (is it anyway), Guns, drugs and money, Public enemy #1...

Hey guys, what recent Megadeth album included a song about going a thousand miles an hour or having a thousand miles left to go, or something along those longs?

If it helps, the song was made into a music video. I know it doesn't help. I was just watching Behind the Music and that song came up and they mentioned what album it was off of, but I couldn't remember.

Moto Psycho off of The World Needs a Hero, most likely. No video was made for 502, and there were very few Megadeth songs about driving fast before the last few albums.
Orion....that's the one with a bunch of power chords and boringly harsh vocals, isn't it?

Listening now. I have to say, I listened to the studio version of A Tout Le Monde, and it was very interesting. I was used to the greatest hits version but the chick vocals made it very different.

Fake edit: Yeah, this is the song. Thanks.

I'm guessing you're talking about the United Abominations version?

I say it's alright, but I prefer the Youthanasia version.

Yep. Truly epic...especially Dave's intro lead combined with Chris' clean guitar.

I'm contemplating recording the intro myself.

Yep. That one. I'm just used to it as the Greatest Hits version because that is where I originally heard it. I think I prefer the Youthanasia one as well. I'm just saying the United Abominations was very interesting and different.

Re-recording A Tout Le Monde was Road Runner's idea. Dave wanted to re-record a heavier song to basically say "F-you, we've returned to form."

I'd love to see modern Megadeth do that tune.

Unfortunately, what with Dave's born-again status, it seems rather unlikely.

Really enjoying Thirteen. Even though Mustaine's vocals are pretty rough at least he's singing decent melodies again, something that was sorely lacking from the prior two albums.

I almost didn't give the album the chance it deserved after hearing the risible "Oooooo..." start to Whose Life, but I'm glad I did. It's not the best Megadeth album, but it at least sounds less like Mustaine is trying to target a particularly noisome section of his fanbase and is writing more naturally.

So, let's have another album ranking, because why the hell not.

Rust in Peace
Killing is my Business
Peace Sells
SFSGSW
Endgame
Countdown
United Abominations
The World Needs a Hero
Risk
Thirteen
Youthanasia
The System Has Failed
Cryptic Writings

Sure.  Why not?

1.  Countdown
2.  Youthanasia
3.  Rust in Peace (note:  top 3 are REALLY close--so close in fact that I could just as easily listed them as a 3-way tie)
4.  Risk  (yes, I really like it that much)
5.  Thirteen (probably not truly a #5, but the newness factor gets it this high for the time being)
This is where I stop caring too much, other than the occasional spin...
6.  Cryptic Writings (very inconsistent, but has enough good songs to carry it above some of the other stuff in the discog)
7.  The World Needs a Hero (Jimmy DeGrasso drum clinic + Return to Hargar = :metal )
8.  Endgame (not a bad album by any stretch, but just ultimately failed to hold my interest in the long term)
9-10.  TSHF/UA (I will occasionally listen to The System Has Failed or UA just because of one or two songs that get in my head, but very rarely)
11.-13.  The rest.  Really don't care.

Nope. Not saying they're bad, but I just don't like the "early thrash" sound in general, and that goes far beyond Megadeth.  Once their sound evolved to what it was on Rust, that's where I really started to like it.  Same thing with other bands in the genre.  If you like it, great.  It just doesn't appeal to me.
