Thirteen is such a great album.

So much variety, so many great riffs.

Won't be able to listen to it until after class, but I'm excited as fuck.   :metal

Edit: Just did a quick "click-through" to make sure it was legit. The riff at the beginning of Deadly Nightshade is all sorts of heavy.
Orion....that's the one with a bunch of power chords and boringly harsh vocals, isn't it?

This is awesome so far. Definitely seems like a bit of a re-imagining of CTE in spots, but there's a few passages that recall the speed from Endgame. The guitar work is stellar, and the lyrics range from decent to cringe-inducing.

Basically, it's another Megadeth album.

I was a little underwhelmed the first couple of listens, but then after about four listens it struck me just how damn good this album is.

It flows through really well. Great production, every song rocks out, Juniors bass sound is huge!

I have to disagree about it being good, its just a lackluster attempt and definitely not Mustaines best work.  The lyrics are also weak.  That's just my two cents.

As a twenty year Megadeth fan I can't understand how can anyone like this one. It's a stone cold rehash of old material and Mustaines vocals are so in the front with the same grunting. There isn't a dot of originality on this one. I kind of see Megadeth leading the quality slope with aging. I would rather listen to Risk damnit.

I'm really surprised others aren't loving it.

It only took me a few spins through to arrive at the conclusion that this is easily their most solid effort since CW.

As mediocre as Endgame was, it's much better than thirteen

Thirteen is good, but it reeks of Mustaine just getting something out as fast as possible to get off of RoadRunner. Three redone songs and some pretty awful lyrics. Not to mention 2 songs recorded for video games.

I have trouble classifying this as a true studio album, but it's still Megadeth.

My favourite tracks:

Fast Lane - Holy shit! Insane song! Reminds me of Motorhead. Love the middle breakdown riff and the really fast ending part. I also love the effect of Mustaine's vocals in the chorus, and when he sings "This is my Domain!!!"  :metal

Deadly Nightshade - What a crushing riff! This song is like a hypnotic, bad ass pummeling of old-school metal. Love it.

Wrecker - Another song with an old school metal vibe, very groovy riffs and punk vibe. I love how pissed of Mustaine is when he sings the last "Wreck it" line before the chorus. The middle part has some great riffage too.

NWO: So glad to finally have a studio album version of this song. The main riff is one of the best Mustaine ever came up with. I am very greatful for how faithful they maintained to the original track. That ending section!!!  :metal

Black Swan - Again, so glad this gem of a track is finally going to get the attention it deserves. Ellefson said that when he heard it he said to Dave that they had to re-record it to get it out there because it was such a great track. I think it is the catchiest song Mustaine has written since re-forming the band. Love it.

Sudden Death - Work so well as the opener. So heavy, so many crazy solos. I close my eyes when listening to this and imagine the RIP era. Great chorus too.

Never Dead - Love it. Similar to Sudden Death: super heavy but with a super catchy chorus. This is what I enjoy so much in Megadeth.

Honourable Mentions:

Guns, Drugs and Money - love the pre-chorus part where Mustaine sings "poverty will turn the life of any man good man bad" with the FX on his voice. Pure bad-ass.

Public Enemy No. 1 - A great NWOBHM style track. Great riff and good chorus. Very groovy.

Thirteen - Not blown away by the title track, but I certainly enjoy it. I have a feeling it will be a grower.

Whose Life, We the People and Millenium are all track I enjoy listening to.

Great fucking album  :metal

I'd enjoy Fast Lane and Wrecker a bit more if the lyrics weren't so awful. 13 is easily the best track on the album though.

I believe that both Fast Lane and Wrecker are about drug abuse. I guess they're not the most subtle lyrics, but I don't see how the lyrics to Fast Lane could be different whilst tackling the same subject.

I havent been overly keen on the last few albums but im loving Thirteen. I think they rerecorded 3 tracks purely to have 13 tracks on the album, they probably wrote 10 and just as an afterthought they just wanted to do 13 to go with the gimick of 13 tracks on album 13. I do get the feeling though that this could be Megadeths last album.

Picked this up today. I think it will take a few listens. Only 5 or 6 songs through it. It feels like a late bloomer though. Not nearly as immedeately great as Endgame, or even UA, but it really rocks.
Having Ellefson back is great. I love his bass sound. Very underrated player.
would have thought the same thing but seeing the OP was TAC i immediately thought Maiden or DT related
Winger Theater Forums........or WTF.  ;D
TAC got a higher score than me in the electronic round? Honestly, can I just drop out now? :lol

I'm about half way through, and all I have to say is...it's Megadeth. It's the same music they've put out with a different name. Now, that doesn't make it bad, it just makes it Megadeth. I think a good word to describe it so far is pedestrian. It isn't bad, it just isn't wowing me like Endgame did.

Really liking Guns, Drugs, & Money a lot. The vocals are sick too.

Drinking cold cerveza in a boiling hot saloon
Chasing shots of tequila, just about high noon
Outside Nuevo Laredo, deep in no man's land
Become a killer or be killed; face down in the Rio Grande

Poverty will turn the life of any good man bad
All love and mercy ever learned, he'll soon forget what he had

Guns, drugs, and money under the Mexican sky
Guns, drugs, and money; pick your poison or you die
Guns, drugs, and money; a pistol pressed to his head
Choose silver and you're rich; you gonna die if you choose lead

He had a suitcase full of money, plenty of ammo for his gun
The sweat rolls down his dirty face, his plans have all come undone
It's just a matter of time, no matter how he tries
He hears "Plata O Plomo, Gringo?" the last words before he dies
