Well, you used to anyway. I saw a fairly recent pic of you in the post-your-pic thread, and was kind of disappointed that apparently, since hitting puberty earlier this year, you aren't looking like him so much anymore.

I remember it that day and I'll always be grateful to the guy who introduced me to them, he just gave me Countdown to Extinction and The Black Album. He later explained to me that he needed to give me the heavy albums before the thrash albums which is a method I later used successfully to convert fans of different music genres to metal

Contrary to popular belief, the reason I'm a Megadeth elitist is because I think Megadeth makes better music, not because Metallica sucks.

Me too. (except I wouldn't call myself a Megadeth elitist) I enjoy both bands, but I think Megadeth has put out a larger number of good songs/albums, and I think their songs are, for the most part, just a bit better. For me, I'm fine not owning a Metallica album other than Ride the Lightning, Puppets, AJFA, and the black album (and I LOVE those 4). I like other songs here and there throughout their catalog, but not enough to spend money on an entire album. For Megadeth, other than the pre-RIP albums (and if you are seeing a pattern with both of these bands, it is probably because there is one--I'm just not a fan of that early thrash sound; I like the bit more refined sound both bands came up with later), there is enough to enjoy on all their albums that keeps me coming back and buying them.

Rust in Peace was my first Megadeth album and believe it or not I bought be because I thought the cover looked cool. I was totally taking a chance, because I had not heard one note of Megadeth up to that point.

The album blew my fucking mind - from there I worked my way backwards through their catalog, and to this day, while owning everything they've ever released, I don't think they've ever made a record as solid a Rust In Peace

Some really fun tracks in there to cover too. I was in a band for a while that did nothing but Metallica and Megadeth covers (on bass guitar) and some of those tracks are pretty challenging.

Interesting. The first time I heard that album, it turned me off. It was hard for me to get past the overall sound and enjoy just how good the songs were at the time. Kind of reminds me of Mindcrime, which sort of had similar production values in that it deliberately had a very cold, harsh production quality that I found very offputting at first. The much warmer sound on Countdown is what really pulled me in, hooked me, and made me a fan. Then Youthanasia came out, and I realized this was a band that had some serious good things to offer, and I went back and really got into RIP at that time. To me, RIP-Youthanasia (and included the Hidden Treasures EP) was the golden age for their sound. Other than a few songs here and there, I don't like the earlier albums. With Cryptic Writings, I felt like they went too far in making a slick, polished, friendly-for-the-masses album, although there are definitely some strong tracks. Risk was a glorious experiment and comes in for me at #4 behind the "big 3" albums mentioned above. After that, it's sort of hit-and-miss, where on any given albums, I like some songs and skip others.

I never really got into Youthanasia too much. And I found their early stuff a bit difficult to digest. I think my second-favorite record would probably be "Countdown To Extinction" Haven't really liked too much of the modern stuff, although I thought "The System Has Failed" had some good tracks on it.

I agree about the sound quality, though. "Rust In Peace" is very raw and sort of blunt, sonically. But looking back, I think that's one of the things that made it great. I think it's also probably Marty Friedman's best performance with the band.

Endgame was pretty boring honestly, Headcrusher and two other songs were good while the rest of the album was meh and passable.

I've never really been a big fan of Mustaine's voice. It's always been something I've merely tolerated because the music itself was awesome. He is much, much worse now though.

Not bad. I'm pretty bummed that it's sounding like CTE part 2, but I guess I should have expected a bit of a slowdown after Endgame.
