Come Clarity and The Jester Race title tracks > RTR & Clayman title tracks :hat

*thinks long and hard with squinted eyes*  There is so much awesome there, it's a hard choice.  I must have to agree with you, just.

Some votes for the Whoracle survivor would be cooool.

zxlkho

We will need more votes if we are to continue this survivor. We're on Colony, which is one of In Flames' best album so I'm expecting more votes, or else I may have to put an end to it.

Also, In Flames is teh awesome.   :metal

ariich

I'll totally take part in the Colony one. Now we're into the territory of albums that I know well, so bring it on! :D

LCArenas

Guys, Whoracle is teh awesome. Listening to Gyroscope right now and it just blew my mind. Never paid much attention to that album until now, and it's incredible.

zxlkho

Epic thread bumpage.

Honestly, I like TJR better than Whoracle, but Gyroscope is awesome. Also, I think we might need an album ranking?

Clayman
Colony
Come Clarity
The Jester Race
Whoracle
Reroute to Remain
Soundtrack to Your Escape
A Sense of Purpose
Lunar Strain

LCArenas

Here goes mine:

1. Clayman
2. Whoracle
2. Colony (Got to re-listen to Colony to declare which one is better)
4. The Jester Race
5. Come Clarity (Their best '00s album, sometimes it even tops TJR)
6. Reroute to Remain
7. Lunar Strain
8. A Sense of Purpose
9. Soundtrack to Your Escape

What surprises me the most is that, just like Megadeth, my least favorite album from them (StYE) has some incredible songs in there like The Quiet Place, Superhero of the Computer Rage and Evil in a Closet just to name a few. A Sense of Purpose has grown a lot on me as well. Maybe because of my rediscovering of songs like The Chosen Pessimist or Alias.

Also DAT SOLO in The Hive :metal

zxlkho

STYE actually used to be my second favorite IF album a few months ago. The Quiet Place, My Sweet Shadow, Touch of Red, Evil in a Closet are all awesome. It all changed when I started relistening during the survivor, and I absolutely fell in love with Colony and TJR.

Also DAT SOLO in Zombie, Inc. :metal :metal :metal

Gorille85

So Clayman is a good album to buy first then?

zxlkho

#80
Absolutely. It's their best by far. My personal favorites from than album are "Only For The Weak", "Satellites and Astronauts", and "Bullet Ride"

EDIT: I'd like to add that "The Chosen Pessimist" is the best thing they've ever done, ever.

ariich

1. Clayman/
-. Colony
3. Reroute to Remain
4. Come Clarity
5. A Sense of Purpose/
-. Whoracle
7. The Jester Race
-. Soundtrack to Your Escape
9. Lunar Strain

Pretty tough doing a full ranking, hence there being three ties.

?

Colony
Whoracle
Clayman
The Jester Race
Reroute to Remain
Come Clarity
A Sense of Purpose

I haven't heard Lunar Strain and STYE. It's been quite long time since I listened to CC and ASOP but I remember that I didn't like them. Colony, Whoracle and Clayman are all great albums and it's pretty tough to rank them.

wolfking

This is tough, but here goes;

1. Reroute to Remain
2. The Jester Race
3. Come Clarity
4. Soundtrack to Your Escape
5. Whoracle
6. Clayman
7. Colony
8. A Sense of Purpose
9. Lunar Strain

Moonchild

IF are one of the bands that died in the 00's. Andres stopped growling and the music started to simplify to an almost metalcorish nature.
One of the fewer new metal bands that I when first heard in the 90's, thought "there was more life to metal than Maiden Megadeth and Metallica". Clayman was the last good album. In the others there are slips here and there of good music but nothing outstanding that reminds me of the band that wrote TJR, Whoracle and Colony.

The drumming has become so tedious too it pains me.

zxlkho

I think they've had a bit more than "slips" of good music here and there. You're right that they've completely died now, though. Since Jesper left, I don't think theres any hope for a good album now.

I agree with almost all of this. I think Reroute to Remain had good songs but after that they've become mediocre. Now that Jesper is gone, they'll probably be even worse on the next album. He founded the band and IIRC, his name is in the credits of every IF song. Now there are no more original members so how can the band continue? Stratovarius made a great a great album although Timo Tolkki left but I think, judging on the last few albums, that IF won't be able to do anything good.

LCArenas

One thing that kept In Flames' quality throughout all its changes was Jesper's amazing ability to compose kick-ass riffs. Yes, Björn also's involved in that, but Jesper was the most important riff maker in all of In Flames history. Without him, I doubt that the next In Flames album will be a good one.

wolfking

Are the guys even working on some new material??  Any ideas on replacement guitarists.  Perhaps we'll see another change of direction on the next record.

Now that I've listened to both Colony and Whoracle and after a long discussion with my ears, I've come to the conclusion that Whoracle is better but by a very short margin. I could understand why some people consider Colony the best In Flames album. I mean it has one of the most perfect 4 song streaks in a Metal album (Embody the Invisible-Ordinary Story-Scorn-Colony). All of them are in my list of best IF songs ever.

zxlkho

...so you're telling me Zombie, Inc. wouldn't be included in that?

Does not compute.

LCArenas

Zombie Inc is pretty good, but... I don't know. Maybe I'll give it another chance.

zxlkho

The guitar solo is probably one of the best ever. Not a joke.

Yes, it's amazing, and my second favouirite song on the album.  That middle section is pure bliss.

zxlkho

It's my second or third favorite IF song overall.

bodiesinflight

Have they got a new guitarist yet?

zxlkho

wolfking

I don't think we'll see a new album for a while.

zxlkho

I don't think we'll see another album that's anywhere near decent ever...

You are a man of little faith.   :lol

I think it will be interesting to see what they come up with.  I think we will all need to have an open mind when it surfaces.

zxlkho

I'll definitely have an open mind when listening to it, but I don't really have high hopes for it. Jesper was their primary songwriter, so I'm not sure the rest of the band has much left in them.

Gorille85

Well you never know...They still are professional musicians so maybe Jesper was just taking the lead, and now that he's gone the other ones have some room to create.

PS: I don't know anything about In Flames BTW.

This should change. (with their older albums anyway...)

I can say the same thing about you and Unexpect. ;)

(Gonna check out Clayman in the coming days though, so don't worry :tup)

zxlkho

Yeah, I'll end up listening to Unexpect eventually. Maybe later tonight if I have time.
