A New Dawn seems amazing!

I'll try and pick up the album sometime soon.

Metropolis Pt. II

I picked up the album and listened to it on the 22nd, and it is absolutely stellar! My favorite tracks are "Fear is the Weakness" and "Where the Dead Ships Dwell". But nearly every track is superb. Plus, the artwork is beautiful.  :tup :tup :tup

Mr. Beale

Still trying to digest this one, it's taking me a lot longer to get into than most In Flames albums. Nothing negative, just isn't clicking yet. Except for Liberation, pretty sure I could of done without that. On the plus side the artwork is pretty cool.

wolfking

Picked up this yesterday

Only $49, a bargin if you ask me.  Haven't listened to the album yet.

faemir

I'm really glad at how good the new album is - In Flames aren't dead yet!

wolfking

I've listened through this album I think 3 times now, this is definitely a big grower.  I'm actually having trouble digesting songs 3-10.  The first two are awesome, the title track is easily one of the best things the band has ever done and Deliver Us is great.

All For Me, The Puzzle, Fear and Ships all have great qualities but as I listen I just can't seem to grab hold of anything, they leave me a little flat to be honest.  The Attic is a really good track, different with some excellent melodies.  The next three have the same issue as before.  A New Dawn is amazing and Liberation is a good one too.

It's strange, with all In Flames material, I have really caught onto the material quickly and enjoyed it, this is just taking longer to get into, which surprises me.  It has all the elements, but maybe some of the songs are less catchy I guess.  Love the sound and the band doing something a little different.  I will listen more, I feel it has great potential.

Heretic

Finally getting around to listening to these guys, started with Clayman. It's been really awesome so far.

zxlkho

Good choice! Clayman is the best one!

Heretic

I trust your rankings on the page before this to be accurate, as they usually are, and thus I will listen in that order.

zxlkho

Yep, my rankings are always right about everything ever. :P

Heretic

Finished Clayman, went on to Colony. Pallar Anders Visa was a fantastic song. I also really liked Ordinary Story.

zxlkho

Zombie, Inc. will blow your mind.

Yeah that song was really awesome. There hasn't been one that wasn't, though, really quality stuff.

wolfking

Check out Reroute and Jester next.

Amazing song.  I need to listen to that album again.  I haven't listened to it for a while.

So I decided to give Colony a listen yesterday, because the other albums I've heard by In Flames I didn't enjoy that much, outside of a handful of songs (Come Clarity and Reroute To Remain).

Coming from someone that would have said "In Flames sucks" before listening to this album. I must say this album has changed my opinion on the band quite a bit, and I plan to check out their early stuff (Jester Race, Clayman, etc) as soon as I can (not really gonna bother with any of their newer stuff because I didn't like the two newest albums I've heard that much)

?

Colony is one of their best records definitely! I find it sad how the quality dropped after Clayman - Reroute is ok but after that they haven't made an album I would like.

LCArenas

So yeah, about the "Where the Dead Ships Dwell" video, I have to say...

WHAT THE FUCK DID I JUST WATCH

Cable

It is nice to see the high opinions of Jester Race to Clayman. I stopped after Clayman, as I got into DT and then prog, and fell out basically with metal for a bit. I heard their next three from a friend, and just did not like it. He swore by them, and was shocked when I thought Jester and Whoracle were their best. I saw Come Clarity and the others absent of what I thought of In Flames as.

BanksD

So after a week of almost non-stop In Flames I must say I've fallen in love with this band.

Ranking of the albums I've heard so far

Clayman
Colony
Come Clarity (really grew on me)
The Jester Race
Whoracle
Reroute to Remain
Sounds Of A Playground...
Soundtrack (oh god this album...)

Not sure if I'm gonna listen to Lunar Strain or A Sense Of Purpose yet

wolfking

If you are becoming that much of a fan, both those albums deserve a listen.

Recommend Listening to ASOP first, however. Of all the In Flames albums, Lunar Strain is IMO the hardest to get into.

I haven't heard Lunar Strain, but ASOP is pretty boring IMO. I wouldn't call it an abomination like some people do, it just doesn't evoke any feelings in me. Besides, if "oh god this album" means you dislike STYE, I bet you won't like ASOP much either.

faemir

ASOP does have their best song though. (Chosen Pessimist)

BanksD

I'd actually say their best songs are As The Future Repeats Today, Only For The Weak, and Come Clarity (at least those are my 3 favorites)

THANK YOU.

I absolutely adore ASOP.  I kind of get why it's not super-popular around here, though, with the exception of The Chosen Pessimist, which is a fucking masterpiece on every level.  One of my all-time favorite songs by anyone.

LCArenas

ASOP is on the bottom of the list, as it does nothing for me. Chosen Pessimist is a good track, but I think the best track there is Eraser (And it's a bonus track, that says a lot).

RONKINGS
Whoracle
Clayman
Colony
---The first three albums are always moving with the others in the 3 first places: They are so mind--blowingly good I can't even tell which one of them is better. Sometimes it goes Clayman/Colony/Whoracle, Sometimes Colony/Clayman/Whoracle, sometimes Clayman/Whoracle/Colony, and so on. They're never in a definite order. This is their current places--
Come Clarity
The Jester Race
Reroute to Remain
Sounds of a Playground Fading
Soundtrack to Your Escape
A Sense of Purpose
/
Haven't listened to Lunar Strain much to rank it in the list.

Jirpo

Anyone else think "My Sweet Shadow" is an awesome song! Definitely underrated and one of my fave In Flames songs.

Kosmo

YtseBitsySpider

the new one will probably make my top 10 for 2011.
not a bad place to start

BanksD

I'd say either Clayman Or Colony are good starting spots

You Could start with Clayman, one of their best albums. Pinball Map and Only for the Weak are the songs that got me hooked. Trigger is also good.
