This band was never really my cup of tea but saw them open for Within Temptation, still not so, but one thing I always liked was their guitaring, the harmony and melody of thier music was always something I enjoyed.  They were solid live.  Anyway, I thought this song was solid

:lol No worries.

It's a solid song and a weird but kinda cool video, especially as a Mr Robot fan.

I initially thought I, The Mask was a bit of a bounce back from the previous one, but I tried it again the other day and I'm just not feeling it at all.  It could be my least favourite album from them.  Well between that and Battles.  Even Siren Charms I thought was quite good.

Can't post the link but there is a youtube video which is a trailer for Clayman which the band seems to have re-recorded.  I don't know how I feel about that.

I... what? If any IF album doesn't need to be re-recorded, it's Clayman!

Yeah.....I know.

I don't understand.  I don't think any of their old stuff has ever needed re-recording.

The only thing I hope about this is that it inspires the band to go back to this style once again for the next album.

Sometimes I like this, but Clayman is like one of their most polished, great albums and they don't have a different singer or other instruments/elements to add. I am confused.

If it was, like, a sequel that had a load of reprises or something, I'd be down with that, but a remake of the same album is just weird.

I mean honestly, as much as I find this unecessary and a bit weird I do love Clayman alot so if it turns out great, then great I guess. However I kind of feel bad for previous members that was apart of the band during that era. That's their legacy with the band they're re-recording.

Imo if you enjoy the OG Clayman I think it's better to avoid the new EP, the new production is so weak and flat. However I really liked the new instrumental track!

I gave it a spin.  The re-recorded songs have all of the life sucked out of them and there's no power in the guitars at all.  The vocals are nothing like the originals.
It's cool that they're acknowledging the anniversary of Clayman, but there is zero point to this if they're going to make the songs just sound like current In Flames.

Yeah, quite an embarrassment overall I'd say. A completely unnecessary nostalgia venture just to seemingly cash in on their prior success. This album was fantastic as it was.

Other artists re-release albums with remasters, not re-recordings. That would've been the smarter move here.

I heard the Clayman re-record and that was enough for me.  Dount I'll even check it out, and that's coming from someone who likes In Flames now.

Am I the only one who's taking this as "Well, Jesper's not here to make any of his trademark riffs and we haven't really been able to replicate them for a full album since then, so how about we just re-record Clayman?"

Honestly, this is really, REALLY Unnecessary. I liked ITM and I think it was a step in the right direction, but this is just pointless

The only good thing from the EP is Anders' clean vocals in the chorus sound way better. Other than, I don't see any reason why they would record.

The Drums and Guitars don't have that hard hitting impact compared to the originals. I did a side by side and noticed a very big difference, not for the better.

It was not a bad listen, because the original material is so great. I do kinda like this version of pinball map though.

There are a lot of examples of rerecordings I like, so I don't think they are useless. But this EP just seems poorly conceived overall.

Quote
Five former members of the Swedish metal band IN FLAMES — Jesper Strömblad (guitar), Daniel Svensson (drums), Peter Iwers (bass), Niclas Engelin (guitar) and Mikael Stanne (vocals) — have launched a new project called THE HALO EFFECT. So far, only a promotional photo of the new outfit has been released, with the promise of more information to follow soon.

Don't wanna get my hopes up too much but it does sound interesting.

Considering how quickly Jesper and Peter left Cyhra, ive got little faith this band will do much besides release an album even if it is good.

Swedes put together projects like this all the time, so I wouldn't expect a long-standing band to form out of it either.  Just a quality album that sounds like a lost In Flames/Dark Tranquillity jam session from '99 would be cool.  Other guys do this frequently with the chainsaw Swedeath style, but for some reason not so much for the more melodic side.

I think the most exciting part is seeing Daniel back in action and I always enjoyed Stannes voice so this will be fun I think.

I am really interested to hear this.  90's In Flames is really awesome stuff.  I can enjoy some of In Flames' newer stuff, but the run up to Clayman is just incredible.  Stanne is a great frontman, and I am curious the direction this band will go.  The release hints at the early In Flames sound, but we shall see...
