I like Scarsick, but I realize it's poor by PoS standards. And I can't stand the song America. Aside from America and the chorus to Disco Queen, the album is fine, not great, but fine.

What's the new EP like? Is it in the vein of Scarsick?

When I see all the hate for America I can't help thinking the reason is 80% dislike for the lyrics...

Not really. It's another new style for them. Very raw sounding and with more memorable melodies than Scarsick.

Sounds worthy of a purchase then.

Awesome song.

Pretty cool.  Sounds like these guys really reinvent themselves every album.  There's no way you would think this is the same band that made Scarsick.

America's an alright song, though the chorus is kinda meh. The lyrics are lame, but don't drag the song down as much because the music is actually decent. I have a bigger problem with Kingdom of Loss, which has incredibly dull music that brings the shitty, idiotic lyrics to the foreground.

lol I'll admit the lyrics are pretty much the worse lyrics Daniel has ever written, and he is by far my favorite lyricist ever.

I don't like the music either, nothing about it. Some of the harmonies are...catchy I guess, but eh. I just skip it every time, the song just bothers me, despite the lyrics.

Actually the only song I listen to less solely because of the lyrics is Cribcaged. That song with all the spoken word about buying stuff also suffers from lyrics. Which is sad since the chorus and pre-chorus (I think) have great lyrics, it's just the verses' and the spoken word parts bother me.

Kristoffer Gildenlow has been permanent for the first five albums. Then he was "asked to leave", and afterwards... it was weird.

Don't see much of a problem with Kingdom of Loss lyrics, they're simply ironic.

1 left. 1 was fired for living too far away.....what a horrible excuse.

When Simon left, he made it seem that it may have been because DG didn't let him write.

I wouldn't really call if 'fired'. Seems like he agreed on leaving.

Per seems like an okay fellow though. Saw him with the band twice, fitted in with the band.

How are they in any way ironic? It's like DG watched Idiocracy and thought it was a documentary about present day America. They're pathetic.

Kingdom of Loss builds on stereotype capitalism and Americans. While I do think the lyrics do have a certain sense of truth to it, it seems a bit dramatical in most parts. One of my least favorite songs on the album.

Oh, I think Kingdom had the only guitar solo.  Should be more solos as the guitarists seem very competent.

I am. But on albums like BE and Scarsick, a few titles escape me. Especially BE but that's due to them being in latin.

And I honestly rarely listen to Scarsick. And recently song titles have been escaping me for a lot of bands.

That doesn't make them good though. Hearing DG rant about stairmasters and elevators is neither interesting nor thought provoking. News flash: newer buildings have elevators and ramps because of the Americans with Disabilities Act, for people in wheelchairs, and it's been around for 20 years. Some fat guy didn't pay for an elevator because he's lazy, and he's not the reason it exists.

I see. I used to mix up the BE titles a bit too, but I have listened to it so much that I have practically memorized every lyric and song title.

wolfking: BE is pretty hard to get in to, but it is the best album ever created. BE sure to listen to it a couple of times.

Notice what I did there? :neverusethis:

You lazy American.

I dunno, I live in a three story apartment complex and there's no elevator to be found. Made moving in a total bitch, especially since the stairwell is really narrow.

At my college people line up at the elevator to go up to the second floor. It's a two story building. That is laziness, especially when the stairs are right next to the elevator.

Yeah, I'm certainly not saying that there aren't lazy Americans, it's just a retarded topic to write a song about, especially in such horrifically generalized terms like DG does.

Go this way: Remedy Lane -> The Perfect Element -> "BE" -> Entropia -> One Hour By the Concrete Lake -> Scarsick

Yes, Scarsick is so easily their worst album.

Okay, rather than everyone keep repeating themselves saying 'Scarsick is their worst album' (which is getting totally boring by the way)- why not give us some reasons as to why you feel this way?

As much as I love Dream Theater, (a band that hasn't done anything new in years) I wouldn't find myself spamming the DT forum saying Octavarium and Systematic Chaos are by far DT's worst albums. What kind of response do you gain from that? People are posting crap like this on every page of every PoS thread. It's getting a bit boring now, guys.

All of PoS's albums are completely different. Better get used to it. Once Road Salt is finished, you'll most likely hear something else that's highly original and breathtaking. God forbid a band actually making an effort to explore new musical genres. I mean, how spoilt are we as fans of progressive music?

You might not like Be or Scarsick, (which is totally fine) - but they are by no means 'bad' albums. If you want to hear a bad album, go and listen to some mainstream crap. Or better yet, go listen to some metalcore and then go check their entire discography and realise that every single song on every album is structured the exact same way as the last. Then you'll have an idea on how bands like PoS, have that god-given ability to adapt.
