Hahahaha. I kinda see what you mean. About four of the songs on the last album lyrically amounted to "OH FOR FUCK'S SAKE TARJA." Which means either he was a little low on inspiration, or he was really fucked off about Tarja.

I can only think of two, but I didn't really read the lyrics too much. They've gone quite downhill once he realized that he's only allowed to write about 1-2 emotions.

Who cares, the music rocks and I like it. Yes the songs are about Tarja, yet they could be about anyone. The only song I don't like is For The Heart I Once Had. But the ending of Meadows of Heaven is epic like hell.

Thats a shame, I love For the Hearth I Once Had, I really like Annettes singing on that one, but I do agree about the ending of Meadoes of Heaven, pure epicness.

Well, there's obviously Bye Bye Beautiful and Master Passion Greed... I always got the impression that The Poet and the Pendulum was at least inspired by it, too. He specifies "the year of our lord 2005," and feeling abused - I think it's more broadly autographical, but I felt that there was at least a passage talking about Tarja, if not the entire thing.

I don't mind it as a subject. It's a legitimate rage. I think it overshadows Annette a bit, though. You hire a new singer and then spend her debut album going on about how sad you are that the last singer left.

Yea, that struck me as a bit odd too.

"Welcome to the band, we're gonna start working with the song Bye Bye Beautiful"
"Awesome, hey what's this song about?"
"It's about how pissed I am that our s..........I mean ummm, girlfriend or something left"

What they really need is to fill the next album with songs about how great Annette is. "You read what I wrote you. You listened to everything I said. Even though I was kinda grumpy. HEY THERE DARLIN'. HEY THERE DAR-LIIIIIIN'."

All jokes aside, Nightwish was at their best when Tuomas wrote genuine lyrics about feeling small and out of place and wanting to escape to be one with nature. Problem is he no longer feels that way, but keeps writing about it.

Nightwish is one of my favorites, but I'm mixed about the singers. On one hand I like Annette, but I wish she had more range.  :-\

Tarja never really sat super well with me, and once Annette came on board I was totally cool with it. Until I heard the live album with Annette and saw some videos of her live. She really not only trashes the Tarja stuff, but her own stuff on DPP. She is not a good singer for Nightwish's genre of music by any stretch of the imagination.

So I guess you can expect an album out in the spring-mid/late 2011. From the article, I don't think much has changed in the writing process which is weird to me.

Is it odd that he compared his music to visual people? I mean, why compare it to Tim Burton when you can compare it to Danny Elfman?

No kidding, I have no inkling of what the music is like based on that comment.  Maybe I should go out on a limb and assume it's similar to past Nightwish.

Considering the visual style of both Burton and Gail have similar musical counterparts that sound like Elfman, I can assume the music is pop gothy. Which is.......shocking.

So I was thinking, maybe Tuomas fired Tarja because he was jealous of her time spent as a federation captian in the delta quadrant?

I've by now comletely forgotten what it means or what the context of it even was.  :lol

As far as Anette vs. Tarja, I guess it is inevitable that this debate will continue every time the band is brought up, but I'm still exactly where I was when I first heard her, which I can sum up in a few sentences:  I loved Tarja's voice and feel she was an integral part of the band's signature sound and what made them unique.  Now that she is gone, Nightwish don't really stand out from the pack of other symphonic metal bands with female vocalists.  I think Anette is okay, but nothing about her voice stands out for me, and while I respect her ability to step in and entusiastically do an adequate job as the band's singer and front person, I feel she was a definite step down.  That being said, the band now goes into the writing process knowing she is in the band and having experience hearing her sing a pretty wide array of material, so I am optimistic about what an album could sound like that is actually written with her voice in mind.

........I guess I'm the only one who sees a resembalence.

Anywho, I just saw a performance online of Wish I had An Angel with Anette.

Sure...she's mostly on key, but holy crap. Her voice just doesn't fit that style at all.  And Bosk, you're right. I was listening to it and thought to myself, if this was the first time I'd heard Nightwish, I'd ignore them thinking they sounded like every other finnish/swedish pop female fronted metal group.

Adami, have you watched End of an Era?  One thing I noticed about that video that is a bit unique is that there seem to be a lot more crowd shots than most other videos (and by crowd shots, I don't just mean shots where the main camera pans way back and you can see the stage and the crowd, but more closeup shots of people from the front or side).  Most of them are young girls, but then there's this shot at the end after the band leaves that always cracks me up where there is this older guy with a beard who has this look on his face like, "I am just completely mindblown and speechless after what I just witnessed."  :lol
