In celebration of their new album being released tomorrow, I thought i'd make a well-deserved thread, though I wonder how many people here listen to them.

So apart from being one of the most consistently brilliant (and pretty unique) post-rock bands around, they release their new album tomorrow! (Thanks for the early ship play.com :D). On my second listen and it's brilliant so far, better than The Destruction of Small Ideas certainly. I really like the shift in electronic to a more dancey sound, to me it suits the post-rock elements better.

I'm thinking of doing a top 20 of these guys too, would anyone be interested?

Oh man, you really should. Definitely the most energic post-rock band around, their stuff is 10x better live (good thing i'm seeing them in 14 days!). They are the only other post-rock band along with Sigur Ros that I believe are 'epic', though obviously the bands are for different reasons. But 65days are perfect for so many different scenarios. Playing a game? Play 65days. Going for a run? Play 65days. Need interesting instrumental work for a video? Play 65days. etc.

If you want to get into them, I suggest One Time For All Time, it's my favourite (and Kari's afair). Though you can't really go wrong with The Destruction... or The Fall of Math (though TFoM doesn't have keyboards which is  :sadpanda:).

I was thinking a top 15/20 would help people get into them too..?

I would probably listen to the songs in the top-x, but I would not be able to really talk along seeing as I have never heard them before and can't compare anything :p.

Dance Dance Dance is up there as one of the top songs I've heard this year. Hard to describe but it just sounds so perfect.

I was listening to Dance Dance Dance while playing UT3, it was all kinds of epic and has earned a place on my exercising playlist :hefdaddy

Been listening to a lot of them lately, they're definitely the most interesting post-rock band I've ever heard. A lot of the songs on their earlier album sound like post-rock mixed with Aphex Twin (which is a good thing). Anyways, they certainly have the potential to become one of my favorite bands, and I can't wait to get my hands on more of the material :tup

Well this has me interested. Since I am a big fan of both those things, yet I have never checked out this band. I must do, soon.

The Fall of Math does seem to be the fan favourite, though I think it's easily their worst. One Time For All Time all the way!

Just picked up We Were Exploding Anyway.

:hefdaddy :hefdaddy :hefdaddy

I have every album besides The Destruction... now, and all three are simply incredible, The Fall of Math remaining my absolute favorite (and possibly one of my favorite albums of all time).

You are missing out on The Destruction.. though it's probably the weakest of the four (though still amazing obviously) which is weird because it used to be my favourite. One Time For All Time trumps The Fall of Math for me as the keyboards really add another layer of sound for me.

Oh, I'll certainly pick up The Destruction..., I'd just like to let the other three completely sink in first, especially as the general opinion is that The Destruction... is their least solid effort (but still very good).

Part of the appeal of The Fall of Math for me is that it sounds like post-rock mixed with Aphex Twin, my favorite songs being Install A Beak..., I Swallowed Hard..., The Fall of Math, This Cat Is A Landmine, and Hole.

One Time For All Time is just barely below it, perhaps equal. I agree that the keyboards add a lot. My favorite songs from that one are Await Rescue, Mean Low Water, 65 Doesn't Understand You and Radio Protector.

I don't have any CDs to be signed though :sadpanda: Maybe they'll sell them at the venue but I really want front row.

BACK FROM TEH GIG OF AWESOMENESS!!111

First things first:

There were two with that ink-misprint, so said they would sign them in exchange for it - I'm cool with that! :D

Secondly: the songs from the new album were definitely the best overall, though Radio Protector was the most epic final song ever. I can't remember all the songs they played but I remember Dance Dance Dance, Mountainhead, Radio Protector, Weak4 and Tiger Girl. Oh and some old 65days song that's pre-fall of math. Dance Dance Dance's epic build up was the strongest part of the gig apart from RP. I'll have to wait for someone to post the setlist on setlist.fm.

Down to the bad: some 15 year old posers pretty much tried to crash the gig. I'm fairly sure they didn't like the band, and were almost certainly pissed. Now i'm all for moshpits, but not at a fucking post-rock gig. Then they were shouting and stuff that generally was douchey. Luckily it was only towards the end and didn't ruin Retreat! Retreat!, Tiger Girl, Radio Protector and the very old song that's pre fall of math.

Sorry for the bad wording etc, i'm tired.

Sounds like a great night. Quite jealous. When I went to see them there was a powercut just as they were starting up Radio Protector  :tdwn
