Pure Reason Revolution Appreciation
« on: April 24, 2010, 05:50:42 PM »
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pure_Reason_Revolution

The article there says that they can be classified as "Astral Folk" or "New Prog"

It says there influences are Pink Floyd, Porcupine Tree, Nirvana, Justice, Kraftwerk, and Fleetwood Mac.

For those of you into music like Porcupine Tree, but also like a bit of techno, and love vocal harmonies, like in Eisley, then this band would be just for you.

So this thread is for us to appreciate the insanely under appreciated band and talk about their awesome music.

I've only heard Deus Ex Machina, but it's pretty awesome and I'm interested to check them out further. Also their description on LastFM is very awesome.  :lol

I happen to like The Dark Third better than AVO but both albums are phenomenal.

Been a fan since 2006 when I purchased The Dark Third blind.  Both albums are awesome, and I'm really excited for the next one.

Yay, finally a thread for PRR.
I was really surprised when i heard AVO last year, and it became one of my "top10 albums released in 2009", i still like it very much.
I've listened to Dark Third like 2-3 times, nothing has clicked yet.
But i'll give it a go soon again. =)

I don't own any of their material, but a few songs of theirs have popped up on my last.fm recommendation station, and I certainly like what I've heard :tup Once I have money, I may dive deeper into their work...

New albumen sampler! Out now!

https://www.myspace.com/purereasonrevolution

They've gone very strange. The section that starts at about 2:20 makes my heart melt. Oh I love Pure Reason Revolution. Sounds like they're continuing their bizarre departures on each consecutive album. It's still got that distilled PRR-ness in there, and they've kept some of the synth stuff, but it sounds so... odd. It's got a very new fierceness to it. Very excited.

Got a hunch the first song on the sampler might be called Fight Fire With Fire.

also a note

Finally just a quick note to say we have re-signed and extended our deal with Superball/Century Media to now include North America, this means that the album will now be released worldwide in the Autumn...

Until next time…

Awesome news!

Yeah I've been a fan pretty much since Dark Third came out, which is a great album. AVO took me a bit by surprise when it first came out but it's also a really solid album.

New album already?  Awesome!

Listening to the new song.  Kinda staying with the poppier sound from AVO, but it still sounds great.

Brilliant!

Think this is the album art...

...which is all well and good, and I love how striking it is, but it's only about two fifths as brilliant as this...

I don't like the implications that that article gives off at all. I want a nice balance of prog-rock and electronic, not a dropping of the prog-rock. :(

Well, I really liked the AVO sound, and "Patriarch" sounds like a good mix of TDT's etherealness and AVO's funkiness.  I kinda hope they do another complete 180 in style change on the album after this, something for people to go WTF at the way everyone went WTF at AVO.

I believe in a good way. Hearing it on pc speakers though, I like to treat with a grain of salt. But I'd say now hearing it once, that track and parts of "Open Insurrection" go into that territory especially.

I have a feeling this album some will love, but some are gonna hate. But just on the surface, it has a lot of good moments on it. I just want to play it with headphones a couple of times to know exactly how good it may be.
