That's actually not a bad cover.
It's not bad, and it suits Threshold's style surprisingly well.

I actually like this way better than Muse's version.

Good stuff!

After the fail that was BC&R (nearly wrote BC&SL there), it better be good.

Seriously, how can you possibly rank BC&R against OoS and Absolution?

Easily.  It is a damn good record, and one where every single song is at least really good.  It's really not that hard to follow, if you think about it.

Well each to his own I guess, I find half the tracks throw-away compared to OoS and Absolution  :P

I don't have the bonus track on my version of Dead Reckoning, so it's really cool hearing this for the first time.

funny how Threshold get more attention here than when there was a thread for them  ;)

But they rock, just get their latest album - it's instantly awesome.

Hearing this cover makes me realise all the more why I can't get into Threshold. They sound like a General Midi track backing up the singer who's constantly trying to sound as 'cool' as possible. Not my cup of tea.
Not 'Down To F***', but 'Dream Theater Forums' .

Yeah that has always been my issue with Threshold (well, since Hypothetical anyway) - they sound so polished and almost robotic at times.

I'm excited!  Muse has been one of the more reliable bands for me.  Although their last CD was a little poppy, it totally rocked like Muse has been known for.  Can't wait to see what they do next!

https://erato1.wordpress.com/2009/06/20/classic-rock-magazine-2009-muse-article/

Quote
"I've tried to push myself to learn new things, be it on an instrument or whatever," he said. "I played piano, but I didn't start progressing until after Showbiz. I'm influenced by a fair bit of classical music, but whe I say that, people think of Mozart, and I hate Mozart. The stuff I'm into is early 19th and 20th century where it's pushing the extremes of the instruments if the time."

Though personally he was split between apathetic resignation at impending global disintegration and unabated joy at simply being alive, musically, Absolution was an affront to a stagnant rock scene that, with the exception of "amazingly important" act like Nirvana, RATM, Refused and Tool, Bellamy had considered to have languished in its creative indifference for far too long.

"Rock, strangely enough, has been one of the most conservative genres around, and it's meant to be the opposite," he explained. "It's been a relative simple formula since the 70's and few bands are willing to push away from that. If you look at the most successful bands in rock from the last 10 years, they don't touch upon an ounce of the creativity of rock from the 70's." Musical wight came from elsewhere. "I recommend everyone out there listen to Romeo and Juliet by Prokofiev. It's one of the heaviest pieces of music you'll ever hear.

As 2006’s supermodern Black Holes and Revelations appeared to be the culmination everything Muse had learned so far, their two sold-out nights at the newly constructed Wembley stadium the following year seemed vindication of sticking to principles and never abandoning even the most outré of ideas.  Anyone who wanted to congratulate them was welcome.  Anyone who wanted to call them genius was less so.

Matt: “Musically to say that is an insult to other artists who’ve done stuff way more challenging than us.  It worries me when people perceive this band at the level of genius.  People that are genius, I don’t know where they are these days.”

Tracklisting is up:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Resistance_(album)#Track_listing

1. "Uprising"
2. "Resistance"
3. "Undisclosed Desires"
4. "United States of Eurasia (+Collateral Damage)"
5. "Guiding Light"
6. "Unnatural Selection"
7. "MK Ultra"
8. "I Belong to You (+Mon coeur s'ouvre à ta voix)"
9. "Exogenesis: Symphony Part I (Overture)"
10. "Exogenesis: Symphony Part II (Cross Pollination)"
11. "Exogenesis: Symphony Part III (Redemption)"

Sounds good IMO, specially those last three tracks, they look really proggy :metal . But who knows, they are just names.

Interesting to see "Softly awakes my heart" (Mon coeur s'ouvre à ta voix) from Samson & Deliliah in there. Wonder how they'll fit that in. I'm assuming that Bellamy won't be singing it as it is for female voice, obviously sung by Delilah in the opera. Piano piece, maybe? Or maybe it's just a song about Bellamy getting his hair cut.

Nice interview with Matt there. It's very true about rock being one of the most conservative genres out there with the majority of bands playing it very safe, DT not included. Also good to see him clearly keeping his feet on the ground. I'm sick of hearing people being called geniuses these days for righting highly simplistic music with very little emotion or power.

I would put money on Bellemay singing it. First of all, there's no guarantee that it will be in the original key, and on top of that, its only a mezzo soprano song, and its really not that out of his range as it is

Please no.  If anyone's going to do ivory-tinkling for Muse, it had better be Matt Bellamy.

Not only is Matt a great singer, guitar player and stage presence, if anyone plays lead keys but him I would be horrified. He can play and sing like no other. Super excited for the disk, last three tracks sound cool.

Very excited about this upcoming Muse record, but I am hoping they don't go the same route with the sound that they did on the last few.  Get rid of all of that compression and let the dynamics flow!

Agreed. Absolution and BH&R sounded smacked to the tiniest dB's! I don't know how much this will stray from the Muse sound, but if anything, I'm hoping for some kind of Origin of Symmetry vibe. Definately my favorite Muse album so far.
