You should definitely check out Origins of Symmetry. That's one hell of an album as well.

Muse is a band that doesn't disappoint. I have really high expectations for this album.

After the fail that was BC&R (nearly wrote BC&SL there), it better be good.

Seriously, how can you possibly rank BC&R against OoS and Absolution?

Agreed. I don't understand all the love for BH&R. The album starts off great, but as soon as it hits the failure that is Supermassive Blackhole I'm forced to skip all the way to KoC.

I freaking love that song!  It's got an awesome riff and a Rolling Stones/Prince vibe in the vocals.  What's wrong with it?

Supermassive is one of the better songs on the album, I'd say.

I think BH&R is the best Muse album (though I haven't heard Showbiz).  Starlight, Supermassive Black Hole, Map of the Problematique, Invincible, Exo-Politics, KoC, all gems.  The rest of the songs on the album are awesome too.

I think this is unfair. You're skipping many clear gems of the album. Map Of The Problematique, Hoodoo and The Count of Tuscany all present themselves straight away. This being said my favorite album is still Origin Of Symmetry. Nothing can beat the genius that is Citizen Erased.
I bet in hell all the toilet rolls are down the wall....... AND YOU CAN"T CHANGE IT.

Easily.  It is a damn good record, and one where every single song is at least really good.  It's really not that hard to follow, if you think about it.

Nah. Soldier's Poem, Invincible, Hoodoo, City of Delusion, and Assassin are not "really good" but more along the lines of "sorta average".

They are coming to Spain, in November I think. They need something more if they want their music become interesting.

I'm not going to the concert, I probably will be doing footing that day, cause all the country is gonna be there.

Agreed. I've gone back and listened to those songs since my last post, and I'll agree that they're at least O.K. if not "good." But they're nothing that can make enduring through Supermassive Blackhole worthwhile. I still remember the feeling I had when I bought BH&R, got through the first couple songs, and was liking it- until that horrible nausea inducing one came on and totally broke my spirits in half. The next couple after were O.K., but nothing that remove the taste of Supermassive Blackhole from my mouth.

*shrug* I like Supermassive Black Hole.

So does thie girl I know: she knows nothing about Muse, but was quick to point out to me that a song by Muse was on the Twilight soundtrack before getting me to agree to let her listen to it in the car (she doesn't really know the names of any songs, btw). I did, so she popped the CD, and guess what song it was?

So it's a bad song because it's on a particular film soundtrack? It's not a rock song and it's not a typical Muse song, but neither of those facts automatically make it bad at all. I love it, and think it's really good fun. Way better than Starlight.

Supermassive was the first Muse song I heard, and it really turned me off to them. Once I did get into them though, I went back to it, and its actually a great song. Just different.

I guess "nausea-inducing" wasn't good enough.

 :sadpanda:

Fine: I'll listen to the song now. Here's a realtime play-by-play.

The song's just started. The riff is interesting, kinda different.

Vocals come in. Too flamboyant for my tastes. Sounds like something that belongs... nevermind. I like my music to have at least a little spine, which this sofar is lacking.

Chorus time- the chorus is admittedly decent, but I'm still not really hooked.

Second verse. That interesting riff that's become kind of annoying by this point stops momentarily, which is cool. But it only highlights the lyrics, which I really dislike. I'm not really into songs with lyrics like "Oh baby I was a fool for you."

Chorus comes back in- same thing as last time over again over the same beat.

Post-chorus. Same riff that's been repeated over the same beat that been repeated over and over again since the beginning.

Solo time. Sounds interesting, but there's nothing really going on their aside from, well, interesting sounds. I don't expect solos from Muse, though, so this is forgivable.

Chorus again. Benefits from the lack of flamboyant vocals present in the first too.

Outro with same riff and beat that's been repeated since the beginning and a distorted voice in the back. Not really impressed with this song. It was boring, repetitive, and frankly it couldn't have ended soon enough.

Ultimately, this song has nothing of the coolness I'd expect from Muse or any song entitled Supermassive Blackhole. Unless the Supermassive Blackhole is an anthem for the female anatomy (or male, even, now that I think about it), which the singer sounds like he's all too desperate for. Really, not my thing. I feel that it's repetitive and neither the lyrical nor musical content do much for me.
