Matt had a (pre-taped) interview on my local Philly rock station this morning and stated the next album isn't due out till likely fall or late 2018.
That's too bad. I listened to the new song, liked it and started getting my hopes up for an album.  :lol

I don't know about you guys but I got fatigued a bit with this band so I didn't play the Drones that much.

Same here.

I actually liked ' Drones'  a lot.

The new song was ok. But easily the safest "single" they've released, not one thing even vaguely new about it and the vocal harmonies just not nearly as lush as in Madness or Undisclosed Desires. Still, it's pretty enough.

And they're sounding like 80's synth rock again.. I hate to sound like that guy, but where are the freakin' real drums, bass and guitar. This pastiche of 80's Queen-isms they've done before, and better. Ugh.

Yeah, this song just ain't resonating with me at all.

Hahaha wow, that was just horrendous. Worst chorus I've heard in a damn long time, and it's not like anything else in the song makes up for it.
people on this board are actual music fans who developed taste in music and not casual listeners who are following current fashion trends and listening to only current commercial hits.

Not a fan of the new single either. The only cool thing about the video is the Max Headroom reference.

That's Muse for me. Either they do really cool songs like Hysteria or Uprising.

If it's bland synth junk like Dig Down.

It's frustrating and a big factor in why I don't check them out more.

This joins Madness as probably the two worst Muse songs ever written imo.

Where is the catchiness and melody of Undisclosed Desires or Dead Inside? Terrible, terrible song. The best thing are the "Muse fans" trying to justify it as something amazing.

Mmm, not a fan of this at all.

Muse are definitely one of those "hit or miss" bands for me. Some excellent songs, but others are a chore to sit through.

Dig Down keeps building and then nothing happens.

Kept expecting a huge chorus.

Nope.

Listened to Hysteria today. What a tune that is. Incredible.

It is slightly laid back and not that in-your-face, but I thought that was part of its charm. I don't think it's bad at all.

Ok vocal arrangement, but nothing else to write home about. Pretty much like modern pop to me. I don't like the instrumental part, and the melody isn't all that good. There's just no meat, nothing to make me interested in listening to it again.

:eek :eek Madness is a really good song!

As for the Muse fans trying to justify it as amazing, where are you seeing that?

Now, this is I mostly agree with, although a couple songs on it are just good, but the great majority of it is amazing, yes.  :tup :tup

Yeah Undisclosed Desires is a good example of an electronic track from Muse that's not terrible.

Not terrible? It's the shining star among what is otherwise mostly a sea of mediocrity.

Indeed.

Also a lot of Muse songs sound like pastiches of songs you've heard before.

What's that song off Drones that is pretty much exactly Road House Blues ?

Dunno, but Drones was a big disappointment. I actually really enjoy both Resistance and The 2nd Law, but I just don't see the relistening value in Drones. There's like two good songs at max, the rest are just rehashed or completely uninspired to me.

It was Psycho.

They might as well have released a 12 bar boogie.

Also the album was produced by Mutt Lange and everything sounds so flat.

Well tbh it's based on a fan favourite 0-3-0-5 riff that hey used to play after Stockholm Syndrome live. Wish they kept it at that, it's not really good enough to be it's entire song with cringe-worthy lyrics.

U.S. tour started tonight in Tampa. Should be interesting to see what songs from Drones remain in the set list.

I will be seeing them next month. :hat

Muse is taking a beating on their own forum today because of the ultra-safe and short set list last night.  Five songs still from Drones, and Reapers is not one of them? Oof.  Hoping for some changes before our show next month.

They opened with Dig Down? That seems odd. Maybe in the middle of the set, but right away-- and it's not even that energetic

As great as they are live, I always find it disappointing to see their set lists and see how safe they always play it.  They have so many great deep cuts on almost all of their albums, yet most of them never see the light of day. I get that they have "hits" that need to be played, but it's not like there isn't room to squeeze in a few deep cuts every night.

I listened to Dig Down once and I still have that chorus playing in my head. That might be because either it's incredibly catchy or because it's incredibly easy and unimaginative. Also, Barcelona by Freddy Mercury & Montserrat Caballe keeps playing while thinking of Dig Down, because it has the same chords. I hope I'm not alone with that :D

Dig Down is indeed a Madness rip off, the opening synth alone gives that away. But Madness had a climax at the end. They could have added a nice huge chord change in the end, but it just ends with the same chords that have been played through the whole song.

Let's see if grows on me. I didn't like Madness in the beginning either. Dig Down is also a Queen rip off, just as Madness was.

Sounds a lot like I Want To Break Free to me. Also, the vocal chords in Madness are very Freddy-like.
But Muse has always done that, no criticism. I love Queen and I have nothing against honoring your idols. United States Of Eurasia is also very Queenish, but also very Kashmirish imho. It's still a brilliant tune.

Well, yeah, I could see some of their songs sounded inspired by Queen, while not sounding like any specific Queen song.  Big Freeze is a great example.

United States of Eurasia is a good tune, but that is one that sounds like We Are the Champions at times, like the buildup to the chorus.  And then they top if off with the "There can be only one!" line.  Highlander, anyone?  :lol

As a tribute band member, this song made me sad, I feel cheated because they kind of talked about back to basic, then drones, then some testing, but not redoing T2L in worse :(

It's probably the guitar solo.  Some Bellamy solos just scream "BRIAN MAY GUITAR TONE!!!!"  And that is one of them, along with Big Freeze and Neutron Star Collision.
