Why is it that tsunamis seem so damn frequent of late.  I don't remember them in the 80's.

I do!

Holy crap.  I remember this band.  This is the first time I've heard them since the 80's!

I have it on vinyl. There was a big deal about them because they half the members were American and half were Japaneese. I put this on CD sometime last year.

I heard Rainbow's "Death Alley Driver" last night, for the first time.  After I picked my jaw up off the floor, I said "Ho. Lee. Shit."  F*cking amazing.  I  :heart Joe Lynn Turner.

Saw them do that live in 83. What a great song.  I believe Aldo Nova opened for them and played these 2 songs.

Yup.  That tune's basically an inversion of Deep Purple's "Highway Star", but still a great reworking with JLT on vox.

I was shocked to realize that I ever-so-slightly prefer the Rainbow albums with Joe Lynn Turner over the Rainbow Dio albums.

I know, I know, I'm a n00b.  My love of JLT's voice was, in all honesty, based on four songs.  Heaven Tonight, Hold On, Street of Dreams, and Stone Cold.  I decided, after seeing him with Big Noize and getting to hear him sing Stone Cold (seriously, a chillingly awesome high point in my life), that I'd check out his old Rainbow albums.  I've listened to Difficult to Cure and though his voice is great, the songs mostly left me kinda "meh".  Maybe a few more listens will bring me around.  I will give Straight Between the Eyes a listen tomorrow, probably.  I have a feeling I'm going to like it much better than Difficult to Cure.

GCoz, it may be worth it to check into the one Deep Purple album that JLT made, Slaves and Masters.   I think you'd like at least a couple of the tunes off of it.  This is the tracklisting:

"King of Dreams" (Blackmore, Turner, Glover) – 5:28
"The Cut Runs Deep" (Blackmore, Turner, Glover, Lord, Paice) – 5:42
"Fire in the Basement" (Blackmore, Turner, Glover, Lord, Paice) – 4:43
"Truth Hurts" (Blackmore, Turner, Glover) – 5:14
"Breakfast in Bed" (Blackmore, Turner, Glover) – 5:17
"Love Conquers All" (Blackmore, Turner, Glover) – 3:47
"Fortuneteller" (Blackmore, Turner, Glover, Lord, Paice) – 5:49
"Too Much Is Not Enough" (Turner, Held, Greenwood) – 4:17
"Wicked Ways" (Blackmore, Turner, Glover) – 6:33

Coz, while listening to Straight Between The Eyes, pay special attention to the great Tearin' Out My Heart. The vocal melody in the verses is reproduced musically in ITPOE Pt. 1.

Hah.  I'd have to go back and listen to ITPOE, and re-familiarize myself with it.  Bits of Tearin' Out My Heart were reminiscent of Dreamin' (Tell Me), from JLT's Malmsteen days.  So far I'm already liking SBTE a lot better than DTC.

You know, I was a little disappointed with this album, it just fell a bit flat for me.  I should give it another shot.

There's some kind of remastered live DVD for Deep Purple just released....I saw the audio up for um...taking at a usual spot that I go. There was a new release remaster of a Black Sabbath cd too....from 1983 though the title escapes. I can listen and comment on both should any of you be looking to purchase them.

on another note....

Judas Priest - Private Property

in my big ear covering headphones has been thumping my skull non stop...in fact that entire Turbo album has been getting big spins from me.
So much nostalgia for me on that cd.
Take care everyone - Bet you all didn't even notice I was gone.

Happy Lives to you all.

Oh holy shit.  Been a while since this thread was dusted off.  With good reason today.  I heard a song on the radio last night that I hadn't heard in YEARS.  As I stood listening to it, I was gripped by memories of being a teenager and discovering this band.  Listening to their first album over and over and over and over, MANY years after the rest of the world had discovered them.  As I listened, I just couldn't help but have a smile on my face, almost to the point of giddiness.  I can't remember the last time a song prompted that kind of reaction in me.  The song?

Something About You, by Boston.  I just listened to it again and almost have chills.  So fucking AWESOME.

So it's very easy to sing with Boston driving home.  I had it on random and Amanda came on next.  I love singing harmonies.

I can't say I like Boston too much, but I LOVE early Chicago, and that's also a band named after a major US city.

Do you gentlemen enjoy that group, particularly their early works from the 70s before they sold out?

I see..

How many of their studio albums have you heard?

I'd say their first 3 are some of my favorite from the late 60s-very early 70s, with their first being one of my favorite albums period.  Highly recommended

Unless you've already heard them.

Yes, 9 sold out shows at The Centrum. WTF! I saw the 9th! That was a great concert event t shirt too. I remember the buzz around the Centrum that night was that there was going to be a special guest. We had heard it could be Joe Perry or Sammy Hagar.

I still have pieces of the ballons that they dropped from the ceiling in my ticket stub scrapbook.

I totally agree didn't get into until much later in life, but COZ you need to check out the earliy stuff Terry Kath was an amazing guitarist and really shines on these early albums

Just listened to the whole album earlier this week (doing my write ups in preparation for my Top 50 list ... it ranks pretty high).  Absolutely dynamite album - start to finish.... and this is one of the better tracks.  Delp's voice is something to behold.
That's a word salad - and take it from me, I know word salad
