I've only heard Worlds End Girlfriend's collaboration with Mono, which is one of the most beautiful albums I've ever heard. What's their best album?

Oh and, Mono's new song is totally amazing. I can't wait for the album!
Yeah, thats an amazing collab for sure. All are great, but maybe Hurtbreak Wonderland is a good place to start.

No worries! It's a pretty unique and awesome style, quite electronic and classical too. Hope you love it :)

Thank you so much for introducing me to World's End Girlfriend !!! I'm currently listening to the album Seven Idiots & cannot believe what I've been missing.
God I feel so stupid that i've been oblivious to this bands existence.

A couple more amazing post rock albums you should definitely check out if you haven't yet, in rough order:
Leech - The Stolen View (not very well-known, but really great. A little repetative but still one of my favourite post rock albums)
Yndi Halda - Enjoy Eternal Bliss (just gorgeous)
Red Sparrowes - At the soundless dawn (featuring a member from Neurosis/Isis, really great stuff)
Mum - Finally We Are No One (very soothing electronicy stuff)

Yeah I agree, but I'm sure anyone who appreciates post-rock would like them. I don't really care for genre classifications too much anyways :)

They have this Icelandic vibe which I love. So many Icelandic bands have that in their music.

Well there's Amiina, the string quartet that tours with Sigur Rós. Quite minimalistic but I love it. Ólafur Arnalds is also great, more classical but it can lean to modern music from times, check out "...And They Have Escaped the Weight of Darkness". Pornopop are also good, but I only have "And The Slow Songs About The Dead ..." Check it out though. For a Minor Reflection are also a great post rock band, they opened for Sigur Rós on their 2008 tour. I only have their first album though.

On the more poppy side there's Sóley, she's lovely. Check out her recent 'We Sink'. Then there's Of Monsters And Men of which you might have heard... Their recent "My Head Is An Animal" is absolutely phenomenal. Also check out FM Belfast's "Don't Want To Sleep", also an amazing album.

I'm too lazy to search all the recent thread pages, but if you like Sigur Rós, you should check out Autumn Chorus (now on progstreaming: https://www.progstreaming.com/_wb/pages/play-album.php?activeAlbum=00124%20-%20Autumn%20Chorus%20-%20The%20Village%20To%20The%20Vale ). Great stuff!

Would anyone be interested in following a top 50 post-rock songs thread? I'd love to start one, and then maybe continue using the thread for people like Zantera, kari, Jirpo, and so on to do their own. Good idea/bad idea?

So what do we all think of the new Mono record and the new Godspeed You Black Emperor one?

Personally I don't really like Mono's new album. I don't know what it is, the production quality is not great but not appalling, the songwriting isn't outstanding, I don't really like the lack of drums, but overall it could've been a good record. It just isn't clicking. Maybe it needs to sink in better.

But for the GYBE record, man that's great. I love the artwork and the fact that it's a normal LP and an EP for the shorter songs. And that you have to play it like side 1 of the LP -> side 1 of the EP -> LP side 2 -> EP side 2. I love those things. But apart from that the music's great too. The short pieces are really moody, and the long pieces are really drawn out like they should be. It's not as good as LYSFLATH (yet) but better than their other work, imo.

The new Mono was good, but I feel like it was also pretty boring. To me the album felt very much like the last couple of Explosions in the Sky-albums, trying to sound like previous albums without being that interesting.
A good album, but not an album I will listen to very often. 3 out of 5.

The new GYBE however really impressed me. I was afraid that it wouldn't live up to the earlier albums, but luckily it did. I really enjoy the "new" elements of Drone on it, makes it a bit different to previous albums.
Not a perfect album, but a very good one. 4.5 out of 5.

I've listened to Leech and it's a really nice album. I don't think it's better than the new GYBE, which I still think is the best Post-Rock album this year, but a very solid album still.

It's probably tied with the latest If These Trees Could Talk for the second spot, behind GYBE but above Sigur Rós.

I like it a lot more than ITTCT's new album actually, it's a solid album, but Leech's album is just absolutely beautiful in so many ways.

In any case, will start the Top 50 post-rock songs thread later tonight.

I'm gonna give Leech more spins, so it might grow more.

All in all I'm starting to feel a bit less interest in 100% instrumental Post-Rock. I mean it kinda depends on the artist, and album length, but Leech for example was around 70 mins if I'm not mistaken, and that is a long time.
With GYBE for example they hold my attention with various samples, and being masters of crafting long songs, but with many other bands I feel like I loose interest towards the end, if the album is really long.
Not because the music is bad, but it just kinda happens. :P

New Long Distance Calling album streaming here: https://www.progrockmag.com/news/stream-long-distance-calling-album-in-full/

They have a new vocalist for 3 of the 8 tracks as well as a couple of other guest vocalists (one of whom is Vincent Cavanagh of Anathema, looking forward to hear the track he's on!).

Only on the first track but it sounds pretty cool. Going to see them in Glasgow in a few weeks time, will be interested to see how the vocals work out live as well as on the album.
