Grow Till Tall on Go Live is amazing. I'm so glad I go to experience that live, from the front row  :hat. Jonsi was tripping and knocking everything on stage over. He also tilted the mike stand which made if fall on top of a friend of mine.

Crippled Black Phoenix - I, Vigilante [2010]

Has anyone heard this album? It's probably in my top 5 albums of 2010. Maybe even top two!  It's sort of post-rock but with vibes of Pink Floyd, ambient and indie.
Quote
Crippled Black Phoenix is a band from the United Kingdom, formed in 2004. The band has described their own songs as "end time ballads". And it constantly and legitimately refuses being tagged as "post-rock" or "indie-folk".

"Born from a blizzard of horned cats, Crippled Black Phoenix bring you a twisted cinematic experience, handcrafted by a mercenary crew of underground heavyweights, giving depth and gravity to regal songs about love, loss, tragedies and redemption."

Yeah it's an amazing record. CBP are a great band. Not sure I would call them post-rock though.

So yesterday i decided that i should give Sigur Rós an honest try, last time i tried them (about 2 years ago) i didn't really listen to a lot of the music i do now, so i feel more open-minded about music in general now.
Anyway, listened to Takk maybe 4 or 5 times in 2 days, and i simply LOVE it.
I don't understand anything lyric-wise, but the result of feeling lost is pretty cool, and the music is great.
My big question is, which album to go to next?
If it would help, it's hard to pick any favorite songs, because i think Takk is brilliant the whole way through, but Glosoli is my favorite, i think. :P

Go with ().  Not as good as Takk, but still very good.

I've heard good things about AB, but I still haven't checked it out, which is something I need to fix, especially since its winter-time.

Not as good as Takk? ( ) is the best thing thing they made. Last time I tried to compile at 'top 10 albums of all time' list, it was at #2.

After ( ) , get 'Ágætis Byrjun 'and 'Með suð í eyrum við spilum endalaust'. You can't really go wrong with them, all their stuff is amazing.

I'd say get Ágætis Byrjun. It's what got the world into Sigur Rós in the first place. Then get ( ).

This, although Kari's point of view has something good in it too.
What side of Takk did you like? Maybe you should get an album that focusses more on that point.

It's hard to say why i love Takk, i just think it has many great songs, and the songs i don't love yet, they still work very well to maintain a flow during the album, so i still find them to be very good.
I really love how unique the music is, post-rock isn't THAT fitting, i'd say it has chunks of ambient in it also. :)

A really good local band from Finland just released their second album. They are sort of post-rock/post-metal/dunnowhat. Check it out anyway.

Hmm I really need to be in a certain mood to enjoy post-rock. But when I'm in that mood and I put some on, it's an experience like no other.

I've never been to a post-rock concert. Whats the crowd like? Just a bunch of people standing perfectly still?

GYBE was a pretty big hipster fest. The crowd at This Will Destroy You seemed like relatively normal people.

My friend and I played Hipster Bingo at the TWDY show we went to. Literally every cliche you could possibly think of was there. Plaid flannel shirts, thick black glasses, Chuck Taylors, wool caps in the summer, T-shirts with nonthreatening animals on them, you name it.

Bump.

So, does anyone here listen to Cult of Luna?
Swedish band, that has been praised a lot by critics here, though I'm not sure how big they are outside of this tiny country. :P
The music is like a blend of Post-Metal, Sludge and Art-rock, overall I think the mix is interesting.
They have some long build-up songs which feels very Post-rockish, but then they get to sections where it gets really heavy, and the harsh vocals just adds another dimension to the music.
I really think a lot of you here would like them. :)
As a starting point, I think either Somewhere Along the Highway (my personal favorite atm.) or the newest - Eternal Kingdom would do it.

I have no idea if this band counts as Post-Rock or instrumental rock or whatever but they're fantastic either way.

Yeah, I listen to Cult of Luna.  Very good Sludge band, though I would call them post-rock, I don't think.

In other news, Her Name is Calla is still amazing, and I still think you all should check them out.
