AF is really good and I've only heard the EP so far. In due time I'll have Funeral on. Will update later on :tup

They won a grammy, so I think by hipster law your safe.

This.  When you start smileing over Neutral Milk Hotel and Animal Collective THEN you can start to worry about stupid shit like that.  Just enjoy good music.

orcus116

It has nothing to do with smileing over any music and everything to do with buying into a lifestyle.

skydivingninja

I was joking.  But smileing over that music seems to go hand in hand with hipster culture :P.  Or at least a certain image board's music section.

orcus116

AC is on another planet. I can't get into it. Aeroplane is a fantastic album though.

The only thing that bothered me was how I could barely hear Regine's vocals. But I agree, Sprawl II would have been better :)
Not really. Regine can't sing it live.

If you think the EP is really good then you're going to have your mind blown by the actually good albums.

Edit: Just managed to watch the video of the band at the Grammys. What an awesome performance of Month of May. Their reaction to the win is priceless. :D

MetalManiac666

Good lord, I've gone from being totally apathetic to this band to singing along with "The Suburbs" in one day.

WHAT IS WRONG WITH ME

The King in Crimson

Perpetual Change

I like The Suburbs a lot but I'm not as shocked as others that it won... I mean, really popular yet still obscure enough to be trendy indie-tinged rock is something I'd expect to win a grammy. Just sayin'.

SPNKr

Well, shit. Funeral is great. Quite a soundscape happening. I need more concentration on the next listen though.

I've listened to Funeral a couple of times and I think I like The Suburbs a bit better. Win's voice kinda grates on me on some Funeral songs.

I've still got SO much more listening to do for all their albums. I feel like I've hardly scratched the surface.

KevShmev

Good music is good music, peeps, regardless of fan bases, genres, etc.  And Arcade Fire is quite obviously good music.  Really good music, in fact. :)

SPNKr

I guess MM666 can now brag to his mates that he listens to indie but isn't a hipster. He'll look like a man.

Gorille85

Anyone saw the Kanye West tweet about Arcade Fire winning the Grammy? I thought it was pretty cool.

orcus116

KevShmev

Arcade Fire is playing Bonnaroo this year.  Yippee.  Now if they could please announce some more U.S. dates, that would be super.  Given that their album debuted at number 1 here and they just won the Grammy for Album of the Year, I'd say we deserve a real tour, not just a few random dates like last fall.

No. Wanna link to it?

Quote from: Kanye West#Arcade fire!!!!!!!!!! There is hope!!! I feel like we all won when something like this happens! FUCKING AWESOME!

emindead

Last night a big radio station here was going to play that whole album non-stop... and I forgot about it. Now I have to check them out.

I love Animal Collective but I can't get into NMH yet. I'm halfway to douchebaggery.  :lol

I've only heard one Animal Collective album, and I hated it. Just completely, utterly, viciously hated it. Everytime I heard someone talk about how good it was, I tried listening again. And that made me hate it even more.

KevShmev

I have Animal Collective's last album, and the songs tend to be either really, really good, or not good at all.  "My Girls" has one of the most awesome and insanely catchy choruses I have ever heard, though.

Pretty much this.

I'm digging The Suburbs more and more with each listen.

Hipster victory!

Dittomist

I adore all three Arcade Fire albums but I think The Suburbs is the best, and I am glad it has gotten the respect it deserves.
And yes, "My Girls" from Animal Collective is insanely catchy. I just started listening to them a few months ago, and so far, my favorite song is Safer, which I think a lot of prog rockers would appreciate: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4rvPX8UlQ78

KevShmev

I can't say that The Suburbs is better than Funeral, but I still love it to death, and probably like it a bit more than Neon Bible (which is damn good, as well).

Scurvy!Dreams

I think they've gotten better with every album, though Funeral was excellent to begin with.

Listened to Neon Bible, and nothing jumped out at me right away.  Definitely need to give it another listen though.
