This is why Highschool of the Dead is either the best anime ever or the worst anime ever, depending on your definition of "good".

Holy fucking lol thats amazing.

It's an anime. The same way Totally Spies is an anime.

I used to love that show. I wanted to be Alex when I grew up.  :tup

Every time I watch Elfen Lied I end up depressed for like a week.

BUT I STILL LOVE IT
In high school my buddies and I built a Van Der Graaf generator.  You know, to get girls.

Just finished Highschool of the Dead last night. Would I recommend it? Well...

Great animation
Great voice acting (Seriously, Johji Nakata, Miyuki Sawashiro, Junichi Suwabe, Nobuyuki Hiyama, come on)
Good characters
Good action
Good dramatic scenes and stuff

But of course, with this show the question is "Are you going to let gratuitous fanservice ruin an otherwise great show for you?"

So if you:
A) Hate fanservice, and think it ruins any anime it's in
Then: Stay the fuck away

B) Don't like fanservice, but could tolerate it if the show is good
Then: If you like zombies, watch. Otherwise, don't

C) Don't feel one way or the other about fanservice
Then: Watch it

D) Like fanservice
Then: WATCH IT

E) Love fanservice
Then: You will die of pure delight watching this show

As for what's coming out this season, I'm watching Star Driver (because it's fabulous) and Arakawa Under the Bridge x Bridge (because it's hilarious).

Am I a douche because I watch animu with English audio tracks and no subtitles?

No, but I have to ask how you can tolerate the awful acting. Especially in Elfen Lied. How did the awful, cartoonish voices not suck all the emotion out of it for you? Seriously.

It did get pretty bad at times, but it wasn't completely terrible. Besides, the artwork on that show was so pretty that I didn't want to miss any of it by reading the subs.

I'm surprised actually. I generally hate watching Animes in English. It hurts my ears and gets really annoying. I also hate the girl characters that seem to be in all of them who have outrageously hard times talking to boys/etc, so the stuttering/annoying sentences they spurt out are more tolerable in Japanese.

I'm soon done watching Hellsing and I'm COMPLETELY IN LOVE. Especially with Alucard. I've been living for way too long without real (read: non-sparkly) vampires around.

I'm totally dressing up as him next Halloween. :heart

I really should start watching Ouran in Japanese.  I want the rest of the story, but the thing is I started watching it in English first.  So those are the voices I'm used to.  Ah well, I guess beggars can't be choosers.

That happened to me with Full Metal Alchemist. I watched all of the original in English, and the first season of Brotherhood in english, but then I got impatient and just had to finish the series, so Japanese it was.

FMA is actually one of the few where I prefer the English much more than the Japanese, it has one of the best dubs IMO.

I should watch more anime. I just wish I had the time.

When this season of Dexter is over, I'm going to watch Death Note with my boyfriend. He is completely convinced that every anime ever (except Pokémon) is weird and hentai-ish and no good at all. I will prove him wrong. (Hopefully he'll overlook Misa on the hentai part.)

Just show him Elfen Lied. Oh wait...

I need to watch more anime as well. Still haven't finished Wolf's Rain, and I have Black Lagoon sitting on my hard drive as well. I've also been meaning to check out Blame! and Noir.

The English dubs of Death Note, FMA, and Cowboy Bebop are stellar, IMO.  Every other English dubbed anime in existence seems to have at least one voice that ruins everything.

The dubs of Cowboy Bebop and DBZ are the only ones I can watch, although they do manage to be better then the Japanese versions. Japanese Goku is fucking annoying.

Plus, as mentioned, the sometimes awkward translations.

I only watch subbed (if given the choice).

They're not, but the great thing about listening to someone in another language is you can't tell if they pause awkwardly or are a terrible actor.

I downloaded all of Ouran in Japanese with English subs.  It's so much better than the dubbed version.  So many jokes make absolutely no sense in English.  I'm in love with this anime.

So I'm finished K-On! now, and I also finished Mnemosyne recently. I'm trying to decide what I should do now.

I'm most of the way through the first season of Darker Than Black, so I could finish that.

My buddy has been watching Dance in the Vampire Bund, so I could check that out.

Ouran is made by the same team as Star Driver and I fucking love Star Driver so maybe I'll check that out.

Also thinking about checking out To Aru Majutsu no Index and To Aru whatever no Railgun.

Has anyone seen any of these shows that can give me some advice?  :lol

I finished Hellsing yesterday. It was brilliant. ALUCARD :heart :heart :heart :heart :heart

Then I started re-watching Death Note with a friend who hasn't seen it before. In episode two she said "I love this. I really love this. I love this so very, very much." :lol

What are some funny animes that aren't lame or overly cutesy, but not really action/fighting based either?

We liked Ouran High School Host Club and now we're watching School Rumble. Any other suggestions?
