Ha. One day Dad and i went for a ride. Him on the 600cc and me on mine.

When we got back - I hopped on his 600cc (Yamaha Diversion) and tried taking it up the drive. No thanks.

Did not feel safe at all.

It really depends on the bike. My Road King is 900lbs and I am unable to flat foot the bike but it is super smooth and comfortable on the road AND easy to maneuver at slow speeds. Feeling safer on a smaller bike vs. a bigger bike is a mental thing.

Nah I just crack open the visor and when a car approaches with the lights blinding me - i just tilt my head back and look through the gap in the visor.

I know there's some type of stuff that can repel the water but I cannot recall the name of it.

Tonight was really heavy rain. But I had my big warm rigging boots on (sheepskin lined!) and my padded waterproof trousers, my big gauntlets, a hoodie on under my biker jacket and

my riding balaclava. Was pretty dry and warm :) I don't mind going slow to get home safe. Didn't see a HUGE puddle til I had already gone through it.

Bit scary but stayed upright.

That's good, it can get sketchy riding in the rain. I have some decent water gear but my shoes still always get wet.

One of the worst feelings of riding in the rain is when you are all geared up and all of the sudden you feel a drip....drip....drip.

Something came loose and the next thing you know is you've got what feels like a waterfall in your gear.

I hate that feeling.....

I only feel that in my boots. And I can't work out how it gets in there.

Usually its my gloves that get drenched. But mostly I don't feel wet til I get home.

I ordered some glove cover things that go over the regular riding gloves. Hopefully they do the job. I rode to work today with no gloves rather than get my riding gloves all wet but I'd rather not make a habit of that.

I also have boot covers and they've been working really well so far. They're not the most convenient thing to wear though. I might look into some waterproof boots.

If i'm just riding to the supermarket 800 metres away I may not bother with my biker jacket - just a hoodie and crash helmet obvs. Gloves usually yes.

I pretty much wear trainers anyway unless It's wet. I don't want to go to the beach or a big town for a day out and walk around in my biker boots all day

and my top box is big enough for my jacket and helmet. So trainers it is.

 :eek

Well THAT was quite the ride home. Not raining that much but 50 mph winds !! I just took it slow and held on !!!

I don't mind riding in the torrential rain if i'm completely decked out in waterproofs and warm gear... It's almost nice. Being all cosy.

BUT strong winds are scary as hell. Getting pushed all over the road and feeling like you'll fall over.

Luckily today was my last day at that job EVER. And it was 20 miles each way every day. Had to ride 40 miles in that today.

It's over now.

Yeah that does sound fucking scary. Hopefully your next job won't be as far. Mine's only about 10 miles from home. That's a nice leetle ride for Herrick.

It's really sunny today as expected. I think the storm blew itself out overnight.

So I might go for a ride in a bit to dry the bike out a bit.

You mangs been riding?

This is the 6th week since The Crash and I've ridden to work every day since then. I wonder if that's a bit crazy on my part  ???

I do have a pretty good excuse for riding all the time because The Wife has been driving my car to work so...

Wanted to this weekend, but it felt like it was ice cold out so I just decided to chill at home. Its gotten cold super fast this year.

I think the coldest it's been over here (Schlong Island, NY) was the low 40s...like tonight. I feel like the cold kind of revitalizes Herrick on the way home.

I hope to do some the next couple of weeks before it gets too cold. I'm going to spend the winter doing some maintenance on my bike.

I fell off twice within the first 6 months of riding. It took me a while each time to get fully confident again. Oh well. At least it happened early on and

made me a much better rider today... It sounds obvious sure - but when i'm riding I have a mantra

" Don't be stupid ". Because as everyone knows - you can do one stupid thing 'for a lark' and WHAM. You're never riding again.

Just one moment of stupidity that ruins everything. Basically I would rather use the phrase " At least It wasn't my fault " than " if only I hadn't been stupid ".

And I rode on Sunday as it was a nice day. Went up to Dads for my birthday sunday lunch. :) Was planning on riding today but its really grey.

I hope to do some the next couple of weeks before it gets too cold. I'm going to spend the winter doing some maintenance on my bike.

We've just done some on my bike so it could pass the test. But on my test sheet it said "front fork seals need replacing." so I need to do that at some point.

plus i'll soon need a new front tyre and rear brake shoes and rear bearings. :)

New engine aside ( Dad still doesn't know what's wrong with it...) and new silencer - it's held up really well over the last 5 years.

It's best to get those fork seals fixed sooner than later. My guess is that you're leaking fork oil and that's not a good thing.

It's bearable in Autumn as long as I dont go too far away.

In Winter yeah it's WAY too cold. I went a bit too far in winter once and by the time I got home my hands were in agony

and I had to put them in a sink of warm water til the pain went away.

I've ridden on Xmas Day before - but that was just a short hop between houses. No biggie.

It's currently 12 degrees outside. Not freezing but i wouldn't want to go much further than 10 miles.

Took the bike out today. Was supposed to be 55 degrees and sunny and ended up being 49 degrees and totally cloudy and BOY, what a difference, lol.

It was doable, but pretty cold. Did feel good to get out on it though, its been a couple weeks.

As much as I love riding, I'm all about the car with weather like this.

I just got some new stuff for the bike to keep me occupied over the winter. In no particular order I'm changing oil and oil filter, brakes and brake fluid, spark plugs and air filter, and also checking the valves.

I'm also keeping my eye on this: https://www.copart.com/lot/67715031/clean-title-2015-ducati-diavel-sc-spartanburg

Might be a nice project, it's fairly close to me. I've worked on a few auction bikes in the past and had goodluck. We'll see how much the bidding goes to.

I got to ride to work last Tuesday, January 25. It was very nice after not riding for over three weeks. I finally have a 4-wheel vehicle like a real responsible adult so that's why I haven't been riding in the 20 degree & lower temps lately. But it snowed a lot on Saturday so it'll probably be another long period of not riding  :tdwn

I rode to work yesterday and it was nice. It was cold but not too cold.

This will be my third winter riding a motorcycle and I think these have been the longest intervals of not riding. It's like one ride every 3 weeks or something. My last post about riding to work was on January 25. That's some bullsheeeeit.

Its kind of sad to say, but I've kind of lost interest in riding. I still do, and its fun when I do. But I just don't feel the urge as much anymore  :-\
