When Dream and Day Unite: A Fortune In Lies
Images & Words: Under a Glass Moon
Awake: Lie (the closing solo mainly)
Falling Into Infinity: If I can't pick the closer from The Way It Used To Be then I will go with Trial Of Tears
Scenes From A Memory: Fatal Tragedy
Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence: The Glass Prison (pick which one they all beat anything else on that CD)
Train of Thought: Stream of Consciousness
Octavarium: Panic Attack
Systematic Chaos: Repentance (Fairly lengthy without going full Petrucci guitar rape. Nice to see that at times)
Black Clouds & Silver Linings: The Best Of Times (Manly tears were shed the first time I heard it... and it still gives me goosebumps.)

Even though Awake is my second favourite and agreed on Voices, I think I have to agree with him. That is, maybe not "weakest", but simply it has the least focus on guitar solos.
Thank you. That is what I meant.

WDADU: A Fortune in lies
I&W:Under a glass moon
Awake:
FII:Lines in the sand
SFAM:Spirit carries on
SDOIT:Goodnight kiss
TOT:Stream of conciousness, last solo
Octavarium:Razor's edge
Systematic Chaos: Ministry of lost souls outro
Black CLouds: The Best of times!

No pick for Awake?
It's hard to pick a solo from that album beacause IMO, it is the weakest JP-solo album.

:eek :eek :eek :eek :eek :eek

I am sorry, but that is just crazy talk.  "Voices" is probably his best solo to date, for heaven's sake!

My picks:

WDaDU: "Afterlife"
I&W: "Another Day"
Awake: "Voices"
FII: "Lines in the Sand"
SfaM: "Home"
6DOIT: "Goodnight Kiss"
ToT: "In the Name of God"
OV: "Octavarium"
SC: "The Ministry of Lost Souls"
BC&SL: "The Shattered Fortress"

I know, but if you compare the other solos of the album with the rest of his solos from the other albums, Awake is the album where there are the fewest very good solos.

I completely disagree.  Awake is loaded with great solos.  There may not be as many solos from a quantity standpoint, but the quality of all of the ones he does play is extremely high.

Voices has, I agree, an awesome solo. Scarred has a great solo. The other songs have nothing special.

It's useless to argue more.

The difference is that the solos on Awake have more of a heavy metal direction to them IMO, they're just somewhere deep in the song, and more technical-oriented than on the other albums. There are no beautiful melodic solos like the Learning to Live ending solo or the one in The Spirit Carries On, they're more of a metal kind of guitar solos, and they also have less of an "independent" role than on the other albums. Since myself I'm a fan particularly of melodic solos, nothing really touches me that much on Awake... but well, if despite that it's my second favourite album, it says something. :P

What's wrong with that solo ? To me, it's as good as the outro one.

Actually, I like both, I just wanted to know which one he meant.

Definitely the one at the end.  The one during the instrumental section in the middle of the song is good, too, but the one at the end is much better.

Actually, I meant the solo right after the unison :lol

I don't know why I didn't think of the one during the instrumental section. But the one after the unison is better than the one from the instrumental section.

WDADU: Don't know.  I don't really listen to WDADU....
I&W: Under a Glass Moon
Awake: Voices (So Underrated!)
FII: Lines in the Sand/Peruvian Skies (LitS wins, but I just love the PS solo so damn much....)
SFAM: The Spirit Carries On
6DOIT: Blind Faith
TOT: As I Am
8VM: Razor's Edge
SC: In The Presence Of Enemies Pt. 1
BC&SL: The Shattered Fortress

I will say though, this thread has made go back through the DT library and listen to a lot of his solos that I've completely forgotten about.  Just when I was starting to stray away from DT...
