Yeah, got that on preorder with Play.com. Hoping for a return to form.

The Avantasia Flying Opera DVD is pretty special- have you got that?

Thought Sascha Paeth played well on that, though I do like widdly widdly guitar. I've always loved his production work.

I've been in a Scarecrow frenzy lately. I have a big man crush with Tobias Sammet.

Yeah, really amazing DVD.  I like Sascha, but I've never been blown away by him, he did play very well though.  His production skills are much better than his guitar. Oliver played really well too, a great addition to the band.  I wished Henjo stayed as the main guitarist of Avantasia, his playing just slays Sascha's, not even a competition.

Yeah, I was surprised by Hartmann. I only knew him from his singing before the dvd. He did well.

New video;

Hmm....not too bad.
Meh.

I think it's worth saying that the album version of that song is 8 minutes long.

It's on Youtube. Listening to it now.

edit: Better, better. Or then it's just the song growing on me, either way album singles aren't the cream of the crop most of the time so I' m still excited.

I'm watching the clip again, I haven't checked out the extended version yet.  i'm really digging this song.  Sounds more like earlier Edguy to me.  It also reminds me of Serpents in Paradise for some reason, which is a good thing.

Everyone's complaining about the music video being silly, which it is but those kind of videos seem to fit Edguy better.

It's really nothing that we shouldn't expect from Edguy.  I have no problem with it, Edguy have always had a big sense of humor.

I'm not loving the song I have to say. I'll give it a few more plays of course.
Don't have a problem with the video, they've done that sort of humourous video before but the songs were better.
I've been listening to WS and AoB more recently and Toby seems to be keeping his best songs for Avantasia.

Yeah, Tinnitus proved that,  Sych an ordinary album, yet the Scarecrow trilogy of albums were excellent.

The last Edguy I could stand was The Hellfire Club. So disappointing and plain.

I listened to, but did not watch Robin Hood. The song actually isn't bad at all. I might have to give them another chance. There's no denying Tobias is extremely talented. But when he sings, I cannot help but think Michael Kiske "lite".

I like how at 3:30 he turns into Biff Byford! Very cool!

I have a confession: I have never tried or checked out Avantasia, even though Alice Cooper and Michael Kiske played on one of them....
would have thought the same thing but seeing the OP was TAC i immediately thought Maiden or DT related

Avantasia are fantastic mate, you would really like them, check out any of their 5 albums.

Hellfire was Edguy's last really great record.  I enjoyed Rocket Ride quite a bit, but you could see the standard starting to drop.

Age Of The Joker arrived today. First impressions are that it's a good one- certainly better than TS. Robin Hood is growing on me and there are better songs than that on here. Production sounds very good too. Not listened to the bonus disc yet but the signed jester card was a nice touch.

I got the album a week ago.  I got the 2CD but never got a signed card.  Oh well.  I actually don't know what to think about this album.  It has some good songs but overall I don't think the songs are that strong.  I've listened to it about three times and nothing really excited me.  I love the diversity of the tracks, Jens guitar playing has really improved and Tobi seems comfortable.  It needed more faster tracks.  It's actually on a par with TS at the moment.

Halfway through Age Of The Joker and it's easily their best album since Mandrake, IMO!
Tobias seems to have gotten a bit raspier, which is a good thing. A cross between Biff Byford and Michael Kiske.

Nice work mate.  It's probably my second fav Edguy album after Mandrake.

Joker is good, but it's nothing mindblowing, and I'm not really spinning it much unfortunately.  It seems Tobi is saving all his really good stuff for Avantasia these days.

I played Hellfire Club at work today. Not too loud obviously, but I'll try and compare the discs a little more closely. I have basically written Edguy off. I like a band with a sense of humor, but it really started to unbalance the talent in this band.

What's the best Avantasia to get? I'm leaning towards Scarecrow. I WILL check them out soon. My birthday is next week, so I will score one Avantasia CD, I promise!

Yeah, I'm getting to a stage where I'm writing them off too, which is sad, because they were one of my fav bands about 6-7 years ago.

Avantasia are far superior to Edguy at the moment.  Scarecrow is probably your best pick as a first album.  After that get Metal Opera Part 1, then Part 2, then Wicked Symphony and Angel of Babylon.

Well, I got my first Avantasia album a couple of weeks ago. Wicked Symphony.
It's really not bad at all. Obviously I love the Kiske sung Wastelands, but to me, the best track on the album is Scales Of Justic. Ripper just..well..RIPS! :metal

Also, quite surprised to see Bruce Kulick and Eric Singer involved. Didin't realize that they were part of the European Power Metal "family".

Eric Singer has been involved since Metal Opera Part 2 and has been doing most of the drumming since.  Bruce Kulick has been involved since the last 2 album..  Tobias actually features on Bruce's solo record too.
