Honestly the only songs on AOB that I'd consider less than great are Your Love Is Evil

That's my favourite tune on AOB after Stargazers and Promised Land.  :lol
This first band is Soen very cool swingy jazz fusion kinda stuff.

That statement blows my mind. So which songs do you consider weak?

That statement blows my mind. So which songs do you consider weak?

Rat Race, Down in the Dark, Blowing Out the Flame, Alone I Remember.

Also, Death is Just a Feeling is a mediocre version of The Toy Master and Journey to Arcadia isn't my cup of tea at all, though I don't think it's weak, just not what I prefer to hear from Avantasia.

The album just loses my attention at the fifth track, briefly regains it back on Symphony of Life and Promised Land, and that's about it.

Funny you mention that. It would've been so much better with Alice Cooper singing it than Jon Oliva's LAME attempt.
would have thought the same thing but seeing the OP was TAC i immediately thought Maiden or DT related

I feel like that song was written for Alice Cooper. Oliva's delivery is proof enough, like Tobi said I want you to sing this like Alice. Maybe Alice wasn't available for the sessions, but for the next album, seems Tobi corrected the mistake and got him in.

Nah, I don't think Jon really sang it that far from his usual style. And what do you mean by "the next album"? Alice Cooper was only on The Scarecrow.

Resurrecting this thread.  I started listening to Avantasia about 8 months ago, but now Im very familiar with their discography and I really enjoy The Mystery of Time album.  That and The Scarecrow are masterpiece albums IMO.

I agree. :metal

But in my opinion, The Metal Opera pt. 1 beats them both. The Scarecrow and The Mystery of Time were #32 and #31 in my Top 50 respectively, and TMO pt. 1 was #25. Three absolutely brilliant albums.

The Scarecrow and Savior in the Clockwork are also my two favourite Avantasia songs. Tremendous epics for sure.

Yea those two individual songs are among their best if not my personal favorites as well.  However TMO albums are good, but not as good as the other two albums I listed IMO.  I really do hope they continue as a band though.

Well it's not really a band, more like a supergroup, but Tobi promised there will be a continuation for The Mystery of Time — this album was only a first part, as you can kind of see from the story. In the interviews after the TMoT release, he stated 2016 as a likely date for the sequel, but as of now, there were no further announcements I know of.

I hope he'll get Biff Byford again to sing on the sequel. The man absolutely nailed his parts on TMoT, my favourite vocalist on the album for sure.

From Avantasia FB feed this morning:

Quote
"Folks - I've sneaked into Avantasia FB again. Besides advertising tomorrow night's TS Rockshow at radiobob.de with some great news - I'll also post a picture here that shall get you in a certain mood. A little bird has told me that tomorrow at 3PM CET (15:00) our press people will reveal some great news here. You got any idea??! I'm curious... - Tobi"

Tour or show perhaps?

If the former, :caffeine:; if the latter :getoffmylawn: (because it's probably a Euro festival)

AVANTASIA - NEW ALBUM & TOUR 2016
Big news: In January 2016 AVANTASIA are going to release the sequel to "The Mystery Of Time". The next chapter of the saga will be called "GHOSTLIGHTS". In March the all-star ensemble will kick off the GHOSTLIGHTS WORLD TOUR, and the tickets are on presale now. For information go to avantasia.net. Also, if you want us to keep you up to date sign up for the newsletter at avantasia.net
"Folks, I've spent months in the basement working on new material: Amazing stuff, diverse, epic, a little progressive even. Long tracks. Orchestra. Celtic stuff… We're still in the middle of the process, but it's so inspiring to work with all these great musicians and come up with a new chapter of Avantasia. And YES - against all odds - WE'LL DO A FUCKING TOUR!!!!!! In March we'll hit the road, and we're gonna play over three hours to do material of all eras, from 'The Metal Opera' to the new album. I definitely wanna make this the biggest Avantasia show we have ever put on stage! I am excited, and I can't wait to finish and unleash the beast. Thank you all - best fans in the world - for letting me live my dream!!! -Tobi"

I'm was hoping to see what vocalists are going to be involved. TMOT is good, but was a bit lackluster in the vocal department.

Now I'm slowly getting into the rest of their discography and therefore am excited for a new one.  :metal

So there's gonna be a new Avantasia album.....and I'm really disappointed. I honestly do not care about Avantasia. I'm a huge Tobias Sammet fan, but with Edguy. I just can't get interested in Avantasia. I think a part of it is that Edguy is a really BAND band, you know?

I'd much prefer Edguy work off the momentum and do a new album. Space Police a a really successful album, not just critically but with sales. Stick with the real band. I love Edguy, I hate seeing Tobi doing a new Avantasia album now because based on the past, it could be 2 or 3 Avantasia albums before he returns to Edguy.

Avantasia, without a doubt.  I like most Edguy, love some of it... but it's the same formula, and pretty standard power metal.  High end power metal mind you, but there's nothing that makes it stand out from the likes of Kamelot, Primal Fear, and a dozen other power metal acts I could rhyme off.

Avantasia on the other hand is where Tobi gets incredibly creative, takes risks, and is able to spread his compositional wings.  Avantasia is an automatic pre-buy.  I even flew to Quebec for a weekend to see them - surely wouldn't have done that for Edguy.

As I said I'm a fairly new Avantasia fan and haven't listened to the whole discography yet, but what I heard is far better than Edguy. But, to be fair, I haven't listened to the whole Edguy discography either.

I'd take Edguy during their Mandrake/Hellfire days, but these days, I'll take either, probably Avantasia to be honest.

Looking forward to the album as always.
