Hey, aside from Glaurung and I, is anyone else planning on going to the WA show? If so, even though I'm going to be going with a group of friends and my father, we should definitely meet up before/after the show.

I will be there. I can't vouch for my wife. We have an unwritten agreement - the money we save on her not going to my concerts goes toward me getting a better seat.

Does anyone have any idea how much the tickets are going to cost?

Also, if I join the fanclub to get early ticket access do I also have to be the one who pays for the tickets? Or does it give me a code or something I can give a friend who is paying for the tickets?

I need to start a petition now for Dream Theater to bring out their version of To Tame a Land for this tour.

Tacky. You never cover the band you are opening for.
When DT opened for Yes a few years ago, DT regularly covered Machine Messiah.  They had Yes's permission, since they hadn't played it themselves in YEARS.

Um...I hate to be bursting anyones bubble here, but Maiden is Maiden. DT is DT. They are no more than an opening act. One member might jam with Maiden and I even doubt that. Hell, do you guys actually think that DT is going to get more than 45 minutes to an hour to play their shit?

Yes, I do think they'll get more than 45 minutes.  As I recall, on the tours with King'sX/Satriani and Fates/Queensryche, when DT opened, they got 80-90 minutes.  And those were 3-band tours, where there is less time per band than a 2-band tour.  I believe when they went out on the summer tour with Yes, they also got 80-90.  I can almost guarantee they'll get a 60-90 minute set.
If memory serves, the first one you mentioned was a co-headlining tour with Satriani (they each got 80-90 minutes) with King's X opening.  Same with QR, a co-headlining tour with Fates Warning opening.  DT regularly got about an hour opening for Yes.

I would be surprised if DT got much more than an hour opening for Maiden.  And I doubt there is any kind of real collaboration, in the vein of what happened on the Satriani or Queensryche co-headlining shows, although there may be a sit-in performance of some kind.

At any rate, I'm sure this is good financial news for DT and great news for fans of both bands.  TBH, I'm not a huge IM fan, so I would probably sit this one out even if it did come anywhere near me.
Hef is right on all things. Except for when I disagree with him. In which case he's probably still right.

well he wasn't impressed with the city when I saw them here back in the 90's. He was pissed that they put them in an old barn to play...and that the set was too small for them to put up the giant scary tree from Fear of the Dark.

Fine with me.
DT will do...

As cool as that would be on An Evening With... show, I don't think they should take up the majority of their stage time with the 12 steps. I'd be kind of disappointed.

I'm not sure why so many people think DT need to have an uber-heavy setlist. DT in general is already heavier than Maiden without trying, what with the 7-string and down-tuned guitars, etc. Maiden is a very MELODIC metal band and trying to be super-heavy has never been their thing, and like DT they have a lot of "prog epics". I'm sure DT will have a nice balanced set, and hopefully stay away from stuff like TDEN.

I'm pretty sure any member on the forum would take songs like Metropolis and Take the Time over most of their "heavier" songs.

I'm tempted to join the Fanclub just to get a presale password. How fast do you guys think tickets for the really good seats will sell out at the Cleveland/Cuyahoga Falls show?

And what would be a good price estimate for the first five rows? I've tried to look up past pricing, but its really hard to find good info.

Also, this may sound stupid, but how well can you actually hear up front? Its really super loud up in the nosebleeds, won't it get ridiculously unhearably loud in the front?
Where does a show sound better, in the first row, or the farthest row back?

I really want to get a seat within the first five rows or so, but I also want to be able to hear the concert.

Obviously I don't understand acoustics at all, nor have I ever sat anywhere other than the very last rows of a venue. Also does the fact that this is an outdoor venue affect the sound?

Interesting. It's be incredible if I could hit Quebec City/Montreal and then Ottawa for a pure DT show.

The Canadian dates are fucked up:

Thu 24 - Vancouver, BC - GM Place
Sat 26 - Edmonton, AB - Rexall Place
Tue 29 - Saskatoon, SK - Credit Union Center
Wed 30 - Winnipeg, MB - MTS Center +
+Dream Theater will not be performing in Winnipeg

Sat 03 Toronto, ON - Molson Amphitheatre
Wed 07 Montreal, QC - Bell Centre

Thurs June 24th - Vancouver, BC - GM Place
Sat June 26th - Edmonton, AB - Rexall Place
Tues June 29th - Saskatoon, SK - Credit Union Centre

Sat July 3rd - Toronto, ON - Molson Amphitheater
Tues July 6th - Ottawa, ON - Blues Fest

Jun. 24 - Vancouver, BC - GM Place
Jun. 26 - Edmonton, AB - Rexall Place
Jun. 29 - Saskatoon, SK - Credit Union Center

Jul. 03 - Toronto, ON - Molson Amphitheatre
Jul. 07 - Montreal, QC - Bell Centre

No Iron Maiden in Ottawa, I gather, (Nic35, do you have a source for the Quebec City date?)

Conflicting reports from Roadrunner & DT.net as well. DT.net lists they're playing the 6th at the Ottawa Bluesfest, Roadrunner does not. Perhaps Roadrunner is using the Maiden list? Also, why doesn't DT.net have the Montreal date listed? Perhaps only IM are performing in Montreal?

Yesterday on DT website they said they would play the International Quebec Festival on July 9th. But now there are no more dates for Quebec City.

Given Maiden's usual stage setup though, I have a hard time seeing them leaving MP's kit standing around.

BTW, out of mere intellectual interest, what does everybody expect the tickets to go for? What do IM tickets usually go for?

In 2008, for the Air Canada Centre in Toronto, nosebleeds went for about $45, and floor tickets ere $75-80, if I remember correctly.
