I don't know if each album got better, but I'd venture to say that each Alter Bridge album got more progressive than the previous release. And in general, I'd say that's a good thing.

1. Blackbird
2. Fortress
3. ODR

4. AB III

I also think the gap between those three is almost nonexistant. It was really hard to choose which one I like more.

Fortress is still really great. I hadn't heard it for a couple of months and it's great to reconnect again. Also, I really love 'A New Way to Live', their best bonus track in my opinion.
Not 'Down To F***', but 'Dream Theater Forums' .

I agree
I just don't understand what they were trying to achieve with any part of the song, either individually or as a whole. You know what? It's the Platypus of Dream Theater songs. That bill doesn't go with that tail, or that strange little furry body, or those webbed feet, and oh god why does it have venomous spurs!? And then you find out it lays eggs too. The difference is that the Platypus is somehow functional despite being a crazy mishmash or leftover animal pieces

Been going through the discography randomly today, and while AB III isn't my favorite album by them, the song "Home" is definitely on of my favorite AB tunes. Hard to believe a song that good was relegated to bonus track status.
Hire me. I'm talentless but malleable.

I have been going back through the discography again lately.  I would just like to say that Cry of Achilles kicked my ass today.   :metal
Hef is right on all things. Except for when I disagree with him. In which case he's probably still right.

Definitely one of their best tunes  :metal
It's up there with Blackbird IMO.

Yep, Blackbird and Cry Of Achilles would probably now be my Alter Bridge #1 and #2 respectively, and Cry Of Achilles would be my go to song to show off the band to someone (unless they weren't big rock / metal fans).

1. Blackbird
2. Cry of Achilles
3. Fortress
4. Come To Life
5. Burn It Down

Notice how we're the only ones so far to list anything from ODR? You can tell when people got on bored the AB train. I swapped out Burn It Down for Fortress/Achilles.

 I Was a fan of Alter Bridge from the beginning, Creed was one of my favoiuritre bands in the early 2000s. Good as it is One Day Remains is it just doesn't have an individual song that cracks the top 5, though The End Is Here is close.

1. Blackbird
2. Fortress
3. Wayward One
4. Fallout
5. Open Your Eyes

Naturally, there could have been a lot of substitutes on this list.  Even though Open Your Eyes was not really as heavy or pseudo-prog-like as the later tracks  (heck, I think it got compared to Higher, one of the most overplayed and, sometimes, maligned tracks amongst rock music, in the early days.), Open Your Eyes was the song that started it all for me which that thought can be the same for some AB fans.  That or Metalingus.

I was discussing this recently with a friend. When OYE plays, it brings me back to the first moment I heard AB make a sound. I always thought it was cool that anyone who hadn't heard OYE could put in ODR and have Find The Real be your first AB experience. But ,for those of us around from day 1 with the AOL or Yahoo premier (whatever it was). Two great ways to fall in love with AB. ODR Remains stands alone in their catalogue, for good or bad.

All do good.

But Blackbird is best them.

The End Is Here is soooo good!

And is sooooo good live. I've seen it live  twice, I believe. That tone that Mark gets in the break down riffs is just amazing. I sometimes wish he'd go back to that tone and lose some of the compressed, "pinched" sound he's moved into.

I was recently listening to ODR after a lot of Fortress time. Even though I was in love with Myles from note one, he is just so much better now it's hard to believe. If Myles re-recorded his vocal tracks for ODR and they put that on the original tracks, it would be f'n incredible beyond comprehension. And imagine if they changed the dynamic of the original songs by adding Myles on guitar. The fan boy in my head is rocking out hard to some imaginary potential pure awesomeness.

Blackbird

Fortress
ODR

I'm not sure if I could split Fortress or Blackbird.  Probably Fortress though, but it's a roll of the dice.

Fortress
Blackbird
ODR
AB3

Top 5 songs is soooo hard. I'd say:

1. Blackbird
2. Cry of Achilles
3. Fortress
4. Find the Real
5. Slip to the Void

That might change tomorrow though, there are so many good songs from these guys.

Album ranking is a lot easier for me:

1. Blackbird
2. Fortress

3. ODR

4. ABIII

Don't understand why ABIII consistently gets ranked at the bottom. So much goodness on that album.  That said, I have difficulty ranking their albums at all (even though I did it on a previous post).
