I heard Mark used a seven string guitar on one song. First time a seven string has been used in AB.

He also said there weren't any acoustic guitars that you would notice.

Right he said they were layered in here and there. That's fine with me though, I'm sure clean electrics will be used.

This should be tasty.
Hef is right on all things. Except for when I disagree with him. In which case he's probably still right.

No ballads, no acoustics, sounds like a winner to me.

Not sure I agree. Watch Over You is one of my favourite AB songs of all time, and I'd classify that as a ballad, even though it doesn't use acoustic guitars.

And Watch Over You can remain one of your fav AB songs without the new album containing what, I fear, would have been the same old ideas over and over.

And here is the album artwork

What do ya'll think? Different from the previous four albums, and there's a new logo. Getting a 80s/90s rock band vibe from that logo, like Poison and Fuel

Not what I was expecting.....I guess it's pretty cool though. I don't like how they changed the logo.

Actually it reminds me of Queensryche's Operation: Mindcrime above all else.

Logo's close enough to the original that it doesn't bug me too much. I'll miss the stylized letters though. It's different. I like it.

The more I look at it, the more I like it actually. But it would've benefited from the traditional logo. My OCD kills me sometimes hahahaha.

Chiming in to say that I'm eagerly expecting this one. But like Scorpion I'm not sure if the complete lack of ballads is a good thing. They had some decent ones in the past and I wouldn't mind another one.

Must've been Kwyji sending all the wrong songs.   ;D

Not just that, but there's a risk of there being less variety of moods and styles. I suppose they could come up with other ways to bring variety in, but if it's just going to be a whole load of heavy rockers, then I don't know how interesting I'll find it as a whole.

I trust that Mark and Myles wouldn't create something without variety. I'm expecting a variety of moods and styles even if there isn't a true "ballad" on the album.

Oh, and I love the album artwork, something different, unexpected, and pretty cool.

Very excited for this. I'm seeing them perform with Breaking Benjamin and Disturbed in a few weeks (I like Breaking Benjamin, but I will probably try to beat the traffic out while Disturbed is playing since I don't care much for them).

Do we know if they'll play any of their new songs on tour?

With the events in Dallas, Louisiana, and Minnesota, and even in my hometown of Orlando, Calm The Fire never seemed so pertinent as it does now  :heart

I'm stoked about the cover art, and album name. I've been with AB literally since Day 1, and I'll echo the other sentiment. I love everything these guys have ever done (okay, a few songs make the bottom of the list), but it's so exciting to see something potentially different from these guys. I've heard Myles evolution as an artist/talent, and with Mark's solo stuff, we see a continuing evolution of how his musical mind works. The potential for this to be apart from the status quo is exciting.

Totally pumped for some new AB. I've listened to some of the Tremonti stuff, which is good, but nothing tops the working tandem of Myles and Mark.

Not sure "totally pumped" accurately describes my anticipation :lol, but I'm definitely getting this. I really liked Fortress.
would have thought the same thing but seeing the OP was TAC i immediately thought Maiden or DT related
Winger Theater Forums........or WTF.  ;D
TAC got a higher score than me in the electronic round? Honestly, can I just drop out now? :lol

What's great about the songwriting teamwork of Myles and Mark are the different styles each has, and their different influences. Mark comes from a metalhead background who cites Celtic Frost as his inspiration, and Myles comes from a blues, motown influence and often cites his inspirations from Marvin Gaye.

So....Marvin Gaye + Celtic Frost = Alter Bridge?  :lol

To me, AB is an awesome amalgam of styles from 70s hard rock, classical music, folk and blues, modern metal, grunge, a touch of Prog and even religious music come together to form an awesome organic whole. Can I say awesome twice in the same sentence?  ;D  Myles and Mark mesh like Page's dark mystic to Plant's sunshiny hippy.

That's how I've always thought of Myles and Mark. Like a Page and Plant writing combination that brings together light and dark in music composition.

The new album's title and cover art reminds of that movie 'HERO' with Jet Li.   Especially that scene with all the arrows.

Also it looks like their setlists are pretty short, which makes sense since they are the third biggest act on the tour behind Disturbed and Breaking Benjamin, but I'm definitely disappointed by that since it's the first time I'll be seeing them live.

Yeah, they are only playing 6 songs, when they are in the amphitheaters, which is only 30-35 minutes to them.  So basically, if you want to see AB this summer, you probably going to have to go for either Breaking Benjamin and/or Disturbed as well (which some people here are not willing to, which is fine, since those bands certainly have qualities that can turn people off of them.)  Also, I hear the crowds are somewhat dead when they are playing.  The curse of being an opening band.  Oh well, any chance they get to gain new fans, they might as well take it while they can.
