Awesome band, I know there are a few fans around here. Appreciate them, bitches.

One of the five best bands of the past decade. Her Majesty The Decemberists and The Crane Wife are juggernauts.

ahh well...this band is a strange one for me. Not my cup of tea at all musically...Im not into folk..let alone crunchy folk but the Hazard of Love album got it's hooks into me and I could not stop listening. The female vocals are very tight and not over the top cheezy...I haven't heard any of their other stuff, I don't think I want to - it would ruin them for me.
Take care everyone - Bet you all didn't even notice I was gone.

Happy Lives to you all.

Great live band too.  The "Lottery Show" was definitely one of the most unique/interesting concerts I've ever been to.

Colin Meloy's voice can grate on me at times, but the band is very good.

Absolutely. Meloy's warbly, raw singing is the main reason I can't really enjoy almost all their material.

On my list of bands to check out, any recommendations on where to start?

Also who would you compare them to?

I've been meaning to check them out since their guitar player was featured on the Colbert Report a year or two ago.

The Hazards of Love was my first album by them, though I think The Crane Wife or Picaresque would be better places to start.

Here's a few songs:

2011 is just getting more and more great music!

Edit: the actual content of the press release is pretty funny.  "1/18/11, once you take away the slashes, is 11811.  What is the significance you ask?  Clearly it is a snowman surrouned by waving banners."  :lol

EDIT: OMG Peter Buck!?

He was actually in the band that opened for the Decemberists on their Hazards of Love tour.  I guess maybe that's how he ended up getting involved?

Nothing from this band has completely grabbed me but for some reason I'm still excited to give them another chance. Will definitely check out the new album.
