Flight of the Conchords Appreciation Thread
« on: February 20, 2010, 09:34:56 PM »
I suppose it could count as a TV show, but I prefer to count their music. ITT we discuss the awesomeness that is FotC. If you haven't heard them or this piece of genius yet, you're missing out.

Awesome. I went to the same school as Brett and ate a delicious curry next to jemaine and his mum this one time. I love these guys.

I own all their music and I have seen the show multiple times. I would go see them asap if they ever toured Europe.

I didn't even know they released anything on vinyl.  Awesome!  Is it "I Told You I Was Freaky?".

I ordered their first album (mainly the songs that were in the first season of the show). There is also the single for I told you I was Freaky and I think there is also a vinyl for the second season, but I'm not sure.

I'm currently doing a New Zealand unit with an English class I'm teaching. It would have been hopelessly incomplete without something from this show, so I showed the episode "Prime Minister".

I've played both albums to death.  I think the first album is superior, although the live versions of most the songs are much better.  They changed a lot of the lyrics and took out a lot of NZ humour and cultural references that the American audience would not have understood.  Which is understandable I suppose, but it does mean the songs aren't as funny as they were.

I just love how they're able to write in so many different styles.  If it weren't for the lyrics, they could pass for 'serious' songs musically.

Did anyone else notice most of the 2nd Seasons' songs were parody RnB and rap?

Yeah and I think they do a better job at those genre's than the people that take it seriously.  I swear if the lyrics weren't such obvious piss-takes they'd have a few commercially-viable songs.

My wife loves this song.  The little guitar melody is brilliant.

Yeah, it's funny how indistinguishable some of those songs would be from the actual stuff on the radio without the comedy lyrics.

I showed a friend of mine who has never seen the show (and knows very little about it) a youtube clip of She's So Hot (Boom!), and she didn't even recognize that they were taking the piss.

Her: "that was crap. They basically just copied the Black Eyed Peas."
Me: "uh, it was a parody. They were making fun of the BEPs. That was the whole point."
Her: "... oh."

Anyway, I think in the second season, the songs weren't as strong as independent songs, but they fit into the show a lot better. The best song in that season was Rambling Through the Avenues of Time though, by far.

The Kiwi-style banter between them is hilarious.

Haha after a crappy day waiting for test results in hospital, the wife and I decide to head across the road to a little cafe. Who should walk in after about 20 mins but Brett and Jemaine!  They sat in the table right beside us. Haha it was surreal. Both of us were too fanboyish to ask for a photo or something.

Nice little brightener to an otherwise dreary day!

Jealous!  The number of times I've seen them walking the street is far greater than the amount of times I've seen them perform :lol  They'll be a hoot.
