Second biggest lefty on the board! Whoo 'n' that.

Always thought I was fairly moderate in the grand scheme of things. I guess, on reflection, not quite so much!

I've taken this one plenty of times and it always turns out pretty much the same:

These tests are nothing more than propaganda by libertarians to convince everyone that they're really libertarians through convenient framing of questions and the assumption that the opposite of "libertarian" is something which sounds evil ("authoritarian").

They're not, though. The opposite of libertarian is authoritarian (that's not a word they just made up), and authoritarian is something that not a lot of people are.

I do agree with him though that the questions are a little skewed.

Who knew we had a board full of libertarians?

Guess we should just change the name of the forum to RonPaulForums.Org.

Maybe. It's probably the case that the test was made in a non-socialist country by a non-socialist group of people. However, I also believe the vast majority of Americans do prefer capitalism (in one form or another) to authoritarianism for a number of reasons.

I think this quiz is more accurate, to be honest.

You are a left social libertarian.

I don't think they're talking about command economics when they say authoritarian vs. libertarian. I was of the impression they were referring to governance style.

As I understand it, the X-axis plots your social politics and the Y-axis plots your economic politics; in other words, the Y-axis is a measure of how much government you want in your economy. Naturally, I could be wrong.

Well, that's kind of how it's supposed to be. But in anarchism or anarcho-syndicalism there is no state yet labor is in control of the means of production, so it's not a measure of how much government.

Under anarchy I'm not sure how any one group can be in control of anything. All against all, you know.

Definitely serious. Anarchy is the absence of government, correct? If there is an absence of government, I'm not sure how anyone can declare control over anything, except where they take it.

Well, you should read this:
https://theanarchistlibrary.org/library/scott-of-the-insurgency-culture-collective-the-anarchist-response-to-crime

You're definitely not going to be convinced, but understanding the point of view is important. This is kind of brief.

Anarcho-capitalism is a different beast though, it's more individualistic. Some ancaps arrive at the conclusion that the state has to be abolished because of its monopoly of violence. Some arrive there for pragmatic reasons. It's also called voluntarism because the thought is a Utopian one where everything is voluntary and there's no coercion. Ancap practical theory is based on the thought that it's economically unsustainable for private institutions to be in war and that there are DRO's or private arbiters as a private court system, etc.

It's complicated, I need to read up more on it myself. Probably need to read a few books too, like this one.

To be honest, I'm not convinced myself. I'm bordering between an ancap and a minarchist.. Ethically I'm 100% behind the idea, but I have a hard time letting go of the consequentialist thoughts.

Before I go ahead and read this, let me just say that it probably goes without saying that "utopia" is a red flag for me. After all, the word really means "no place" in Greek, and not for no reason.

Seems like the fairly common place to be. Became slightly more liberal, and slightly more libertarian, since I last took it.

Really, too many of the questions have answers that are neutral/mixed

It's just like a certain person's view of morality, and whether certain art should be considered art necessarily has ANY effect on the social policy they would push.

Lower region, right down the middle.
"All great works are prepared in the desert, including the redemption of the world. The precursors, the followers, the Master Himself, all obeyed or have to obey one and the same law. Prophets, apostles, preachers, martyrs, pioneers of knowledge, inspired artists in every art, ordinary men and the Man-God, all pay tribute to loneliness, to the life of silence, to the night." - A. G. Sertillanges
