Daniel Gildenlow is perhaps the most overrated person on these boards; I don't see how he's good at anything at all
:heart

Can't believe I'm not alone in this  :heart
*Joins the group*

And me.

Daniel Gildenlow is so horribly over-melodramatic, that I actually cringe through most PoS songs because of it. It's like listening to a hammy broadway singer with a great band behind them.

Couldn't have worded this better, one of the main -and few reasons- that band doesn't appeal to me at all.
I wouldn't want somebody with 18 kids to mow my damn lawn, based on a longstanding bias I have against crazy fucks.

Makes sense, having something pumped into your lower back goes perfectly with loving PoS, HA

I wish I could sing with James's highs and Allen's mids.
Well first I'd have to be able to sing at all, but you get my point

Not only is Labrie the best singer out of those three, but asking a question like that on a forum full of Dream Theater fans is going to result in obvious answers.

I can't imagine Russel Allen singing Learning to Live, but if I could it wouldn't be pretty.

Why couldn't Allen sing LTL? He has the range and the understanding of off time singing to pull it off. Not sure what part of it he couldn't do.

He could, but his voice just isn't right for it.  For the same reason I don't think I'd want to hear James LaBrie sing Set the World on Fire.

Well that's just saying "I'm used to hearing it this way". He could still pull it off, it just wouldn't sound quite "right" to you, which is cool.

Gildenlow by a long way, I think. It's not easy to say, as I do love DT, but I think JLB is past his best now. Allen's voice just pisses me off. And Gildenlow can sing so acrobatically, so effortlessly. Just listen to Iter Impius and you'll hear what I mean. And he can sing so well live!

Allen easily.

Also:
Who the hell is Russel Allen?
Singer for Symphony X
Oh. I don't know why people consider him good.
What is this I don't even

I kinda understand the RA dissent. I personally love his vocals but was kinda thrown for a loop when I bought Live on the Edge of Forever back in the day since he is waaaaaaaaaayyyyy different from the album a LOT of the time on that album. Not always a bad thing but there's numerous instances of missed notes, changing melodies where it doesn't benefit the song any, and hammy drawn-out melodies. Some of the ad libs really work though so it boils down to the old "to each his own" thing I guess.
