Tracking for the next album starts tomorrow!

-Marc.

Is this a joke? And if it isn't, are we talking about the next studio album?

No and yes! Updates from Stan on Facebook recently have pointed to the next album, including some clips of his demos for the next album. Tracking for Jimmy's drum parts begins tomorrow, and the funds from the current DVD Kickstarter will be going to help produce the next album!

And speaking of the PN14 performance with Neal, SB are also giving out free MP3/FLAC downloads of the audio version of the performance with every DVD donation. They're also gauging the fanbase about a possible Blu-Ray release of the show since it was recorded in HD.

I'm excited for SB12 next year (since I'm pretty sure it's going to come out then and not this year, seems too late in the year for a 2014 release at this point).

-Marc.

I still can't believe how good and consistent the newest album is.  If you factor in the bonus songs, this might very well be a top 5 Beard disc.  It really is that good.

Yeah I spun the new disk this morning after I bumped the thread. Really great stuff on it.

I did an alternate track listing for it, by incorporating the bonus tracks, dropping Afterthoughts (which I do not like), and using the shorter version of Something Very Stranger (which I prefer, largely because that keyboard melody that dominates the long intro sounds just like The Good Don't Last, and if I want to hear it, I'll listen to that song):

1. Hiding Out
2. I Know You Secret
3. A Treasure Abandoned
4. Submerged
5. The Man You're Afraid You Are
6. Down a Burning Road
7. Wish I Were Here
8. Something Very Strange
9. Postcards from Perdition
10. Waiting for Me

I had been putting off a personal alternate track list for this album, but seeing your post prompted me to revisit the album and see what I could come up with. My fascination of creating tracklists that conform to vinyl sides of 18-25 minutes in length led me to creating a tracklist that portions the songs in a way that each side has a good feel or sound while still keeping the original albums' songs order (with the bonus songs in between):

Side 1:
Hiding Out
I Know Your Secret
Postcards From Perdition

Side 2:
A Treasure Abandoned
Submerged
Wish I Were Here

Side 3:
The Man You're Afraid You Are
Afterthoughts
Down A Burning Road

Side 4:
Something Very Strange
Waiting For Me

Who knows, though, I may change my order in a week or a month or a year, but these are all good songs, no matter what!

Fingers crossed for a longer fall tour, I still can't get over not attending the gig in Budapest last year because of a stupid exam.

There's talk about a BluRay version of the PN14 show (and maybe extras) on the SB Facebook page.  :metal

What other bonus tracks does Brief Nocturnes have?

I got the 2CD edition from their campaign. Am I missing tracks?

How would we know unless you post which ones are on yours? :lol

The bonus disc has five songs:

The Man You're Afraid You Are
Down a Burning Road
Wish I Were Here
Something Very Strange (Sanctified Remix)
Postcards from Perdition

Yeah, those are the bonus tracks I have. was there supposed to be a bonus track on the vinyl edition? or on the Itunes edition? I do recall being a bit pissed off about it, but then I forgot...hence my question

IIRC, "Postcards From Perdition" was only available as part of the original run Limited Edition of the album and not on the retail version of the 2-Disc Special Edition.

Thanks Mr. M!

That sounds about right.

Sounds weird but I've played more Spock's Beard when Nick and Ted took over than when Neal was in the band. I find their songwriting way stronger than with Neal.

Ah, that's right.  I totally forgot that.  I guess that is what happens nowadays when mp3s, albeit HQ ones, are what we listen to most of the time. :lol

Studio report: Final day at The Mouse House yesterday for the first round of drum sessions for SB12. Six songs down, more to come — with Ryo Okumoto and 5 others.

Initial drum-tracking sessions for the new SB album are half-way through with Jimmy completing SIX new songs! There are some videos posted on the SB Forum on Facebook, as well as this one from Ryo on his YouTube page:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pGSdGQ9m4Xc

Sounding great so far! Jimmy's drumming is as good as it's ever been, and he definitely has Nick's style and sound down pat after playing live with SB for so many years! I mean it's been over a decade already!!

So a post from SB showed up on FB the other day, concerning their only 2014 west coast appearance opening for Jefferson Starship in Oakland. The show is part of a sci-fi convention. Tickets purchased, for both.... :metal and :blob:

Okay, is that supposed to be ironic, funny, or just a wacky coincidence?

A Sci-Fi convention, with appearance from Jefferson Starship (the word "starship" didn't come in the vernacular until Star Trek), and Spock's Beard (a band named after a particularly memorable character anomoly from a Star Trek episode).

There were some people who had read the book, maybe a handful more had heard of it, but it wasn't exactly a household word.  Sci-fi was far from mainstream, especially back in the 50's and 60's.  A prime-time television show that used the word in every episode is on a completely different level.

Been listening to a lot of "V" lately.  At the End of the day just blows my mind. I love that slow section 1/2 way into the track too then it gets all wild and skittish again.

It's a rollercoaster of awesomesauce.
