I'd be down with this.  If its a collapsable hat, I don't know if we'll be able to add flair to it real easily, except maybe pins which could be put on and removed at will.  To make it a little more fun, we could do kind of a Flat Stanley thing and have our pictures taken at local points of interest, rather than just in our own homes.  No stories required though.  Someone should set up a flickr account or something similar so that we can all upload our own photos, with a username password we would all know.

Now I like this suggestion quite a bit as well. I'm thinking we should all make sure to take pictures in interesting places, and not just take mirror shots in our bathrooms. That'd get rather boring.

Also, unless you plan on adding some graffiti to the hat, I say just include the flair in the packaging for another person to attach to the hat when taking the picture.

Now who wants to be in charge of making a flickr account?
I felt its length in quite a few places.

Excellent idea.

I don't think US - Canada shipping is international, but you US folks should check with your postal service.

I'll get on that in a bit.

Well it seems we are getting quite a few members interested. I think it's safe to say we are making this happen. So, those interested please PM me your shipping info, so I can get a spreadsheet of some sort set up to organize who is sending the hat to who.

You address will only be known by myself, and by the member shipping the hat.

Now, I'm wondering, do we want to keep it a secret who is shipping the hat to who, or make a list when that is all decided?

EDIT: I'm going to give the entire forum about a week before I close the list so we can get this shit started.

An I'll PM you asap.
The shipping info for me and GL is the same, and you can probably put XianL in with us (unless he says otherwise later).

That it is. She said she's not okay with me giving my address out to a group of people I don't know who might be psychos. (Pretty much exact quote) I said I'd be sure not to have mine handed out to 73109, but she just got confused.

I hope it works out for the rest of you.  :tup

Ah the joys of living in residence.

But seriously, that sucks guys.
Parents can be over-protective sometimes.
I mean, I understand, but some of us live halfway around the world.
It's much easier to be psycho close to home.  ;)

It's international but it's really not that much more, especially if it's in a padded envelope.

That sucks UMH. Damn.

You couldn't even just send the hat in the mail without a return address so we could at least have a hat that's usable? Well that is depending on how attached you are to said hat.

Now we still need a hat. Curses.

I'm not attached to the hat at all, but I don't know if I feel like pushing it. She actually threatened to disconnect the internet.

In case you're wondering, yes, she's a psychopath.

Perfectly understandable. I've had my fair share of crazy psychobitch mothers to deal with over the years. They are a pain.

Well, I suppose those who can still participate will have to find a hat. I will check some local party/costume shops this week and see if I can find anything.

I'll look into getting a collapsable top hat since our donated one is no longer available.  Not to sound like a dick, but it seems like I'm one of the few over the age of 21 willing to participate (what does that say about me?), and if that's the case, I also probably have the most disposable income.

I won't have a lot of free time this week because I have a house guest staying with me and he's brand new to America, so I'm trying to help him find an apartment, furnish it, and prepare for his wife and kids to come over, but that would give us time to get more people on board and organize.

Don't worry about it, mang. Whenever (within a reasonable amount of time that is) is fine. If you can't find a hat, I'm sure myself or someone else here can conjure SOMETHING up.

I'm in if the shipping doesn't murder my wallet.
And, don't do the secret deliverer thing. I'd feel more secure knowing who I'm sending to, and who I'm receiving from.
Plus having a master list gives us an idea of the journey the hat will go on.

Shipping in the US really shouldn't be that bad... where are the hat pics??

I think there are some good ideas here, like adding flair and taking photos in interesting places. I will have fun with this  :tup

I'm not afraid of anyone knowing my name, I just really don't want you guys to know my name for some reason.

If it doesn't weight too much, it costs only about seven dollars for me to send it to the states. (Just googled some swedish sites.) So sign me up, dammit!
