My favorite is On The Dark Side from the Eddie And The Cruisers movie.

Winger Theater Forums........or WTF.  ;D
TAC got a higher score than me in the electronic round? Honestly, can I just drop out now? :lol

Eh, on the song selection.

I started out hating Bruce, then I sort of warmed to him with "The Rising" (which is probably my favorite song by him; that or "Downbound Train" from Born In The USA), which is an essential record.   But then I saw the Broadway show, from the third row.  The guy is the real deal, even if you don't like his music. It's in his blood.  I think the things that some of us here LOVE about our favorite artists - the Steven Wilsons, the Neal Morses, the John Petruccis - the idea that "making music is not a choice, but a lifestyle" applies to Bruce in every way.

He is - neck-and-neck with Dylan - our greatest living American musical artist (I don't say that as "opinion", I posit that as a provable fact.)

I love The River. It's clearly a song about...

Well...

Um...

Let me put it this way. He goes UP out of the valley, UP to where the air is clean, UP to where the fields are green. Rivers tend to be in the valley, not up in the hills. Yet once him and Mary are up in the hills, he GOES DOOOOWWWWWN to the river...
"And if love remains, though everything is lost,
We will pay the price, but we will not count the cost..."

Uh, have you read the lyrics lately?  The word "up" only appears once, and that's in the phrase "bring you up" as in "raise a child", not "raise in altitude".

The rest?  "I come from down in the valley", "Well Mister they vanished right into the air", "We'd ride out of this valley down to where the fields were green"...

I love this stanza:
Then I got Mary pregnant
And man that was all she wrote
And for my nineteenth birthday I got a union card and a wedding coat
We went down to the courthouse
And the judge put it all to rest
No wedding day smiles no walk down the aisle
No flowers no wedding dress

By the way, the song is an homage to his sister and her husband.

The first five. With Jungleland being my absolute favourite, and an all time favourite regardless of artist.
Zydar is my new hero.  I just laughed so hard I nearly shat.

Ah, finally the "your favourite out of these randomly selected songs"-threads are coming back, I always enjoyed them :)

I love Bruce Springsteen, but weirdly, I am more of a fan of the later stuff. My favourite album by him is The Rising. But I also love the intimate atmosphere of Devils & Dust. That title track ist just hauntingly beautiful. These two are now finally re-issued on vinyl - been waiting for that for years, I'm glad I didn't spend 150-200 bucks on the first pressings of these albums.

Working On A Dream hat some great songs too, especially the opener, Outlaw Pete, an 8-minute opus with a beautiful western-like story and great instrumentation.

His latest album, Western Stars, is also packed with great orchestral arrangements and beautiful stories. Highly recommended.

Bring back these threads :)

Fritz, that's actually me too.  I'm with you on that (and my friend, who's a Bruce junkie - over 75 shows - can't understand it). If you haven't heard it, Wrecking Ball is excellent too, and the "Storytellers" DVD, where he jokes about the popularity of Manfred Mann's version becuase they rewrote it to be about a feminine hygiene product (the lyric is "revvedf up like a deuce", but it's frequently misheard as something else).

Hef is right on all things. Except for when I disagree with him. In which case he's probably still right.

I only picked Born to Run and BITUSA. Glory Days and Dancing in the Dark have such an irritating synthesizer sound to me.

The only other Springsteen song I can think of that I know (and like) is The Wall. Came on Spotify radio some years ago and always stuck with me, and I love it. Beautiful song I didn't expect to hear from this guy.
From a Mega Man Legends island jamming power metal to a Walrus listening to black metal, I like your story arc.

Shame my absolute #1 Springsteen song isn't in the selection.

Yeah, and Custard Pie by Led Zeppelin is really about a dessert...

My alltime favourite piece by him (and album as well) is Human Touch (Jeff Porcaro is on it, I don't need to say more). Beyond that one I like Streets Of Philadelphia quite a bit as well (along with the usual suspects on BITUSA)

But somehow I carry on, heading for the top

I don't follow; that would make sense if I said "By the way, the song "Pink Cadillac" is about his car."   It IS an homage to his sister; he's said it multiple times.   ?
