Not a huge fan of TMOLS. Not sure why SS is in the lead, that song is chill inducing.

What. Far From Heaven is the best of these songs, actually.

Through Her Eyes is the weakest, though it's not bad; it just doesn't do too too much. But all of these except that and Surrender to Reason are in my top 50.

Definitely Far From Heaven. It's very below average for DT's standards. And while I can appreciate the subject matter, I can't imagine what would compel JLB to write something like this. He's 50+ years old, this song sounds like it's from the perspective of a teenager.

Isn't it supposed to be about kids/teens and the expectations their parents put on them or something like that?

Yeah, TGP and I are going to have to have words after class.

Basically yeah. I'm just saying it's strange that JLB would write about something like that now. I also feel like it's kind of an overdone subject, in general.

Yeah, TGP and I are going to have to have words after class.

I also wanted to mention how I think Through Her Eyes is the best on that list. So yeah.

I like all of those songs. Sacrificed Sons is absolutely amazing; I'm surprised to see so many votes for it.

That's a good group of songs.  I'd say Far From Heaven is my least favorite just because the other tracks are so strong.

Been a diehard DT fan for almost three years now, but I never actually got through Sacrificed Sons yet. The intro sample is annoying, and it doesn't improve much after that either, so I always skip it after a couple of minutes.

Come to think of it, there are quite a few DT songs I'm yet to listen to in their entirety (2 from Awake; 3 from 8vm; 2 from SC -I once started listening to Repentance during a 12 hour long train ride thinking it'll help me get through it, it didn't- ; 2 from BCSL and 2 from ADTOE).

You're missing out!  All the best bits come at the middle and end of the song (4:45ish but my fav part starts at 7:50) .  Bitchin heavy part and drum solo/outro always get me rocking out.

My thoughts exactly. It's a bit of a slow build up but once it gets going.. The riffage is beastly. I actually made a file where this song starts when the keyboard synth kicks in and the tempo changes. I normally listen to the whole song but I like to have this bit because sometimes don't feel like listening to the first half.

I think Through Her Eyes has to be the weakest song here. It's just a simple ballad with your I V VI IV progression so it's obviously gonna sound nice but I think all the other songs here have something more compelling going for them, to me. Maybe Through Her Eyes is just a bit too samey for a DT song.

I really like Through Her Eyes. Very underrated track.

TMOLS is my least favourite here, by far. Actually, it's the one I don't like at all.

This is a strange poll  :lol I went with Sacrificed Sons. I've given this song a chance several times and it has never done anything for me at all. I find it to be pretty dull with very few redeeming qualities; it's certainly one of my least favorite songs by the band.

Don't worry, I've heard them before, I just never listened to the song in its entirety. I always thought the keyboard solo and the piano bit were OK, but there's not much else for me in that song.

Sycsa is perhaps the most brilliant and insightful man I have ever encountered.

How is Far From Heaven in second place right now?  Good lyrics, touching melodies, nice call-forwards to Breaking All Illusions, and JR playing piano.  It's a touching little piece of music.

It is, but the others are just too strong.

Sacrificed Sons is in my Top 10, suprised by amount of hate it gets in this thread. I think it's glorious.

Voted for Through Her Eyes there, the only song from SFAM I don't like at all.

For me it was Far From Heaven, although it would be a tie with Through Her Eyes.  The thing is, FFH is really easily skippable.  Through Her Eyes is a single part of a greater whole, and it does serve a purpose in the context of that album.  FFH on the other hand has a bit of a "filler" feeling to it.  I skip it every time.

Edit:  Yeah and the hate for Sacrificed Sons is......weird.

Because this whole poll is a joke.
Why?
Hef is right on all things. Except for when I disagree with him. In which case he's probably still right.

Because this whole poll is a joke.
Why?
I thought this was satirical, along with the other bizarrely specific and seemingly irrelevant polls, IE the favorite DT track beginning with "O." So I gave an answer that was equally satirical.
"I raised the baby, I changed the baby's diapers.  Whenever the baby had projectile diarrhea, I was there in the line of fire.  I even got a little in my mouth!  I sacrificed so much for my baby.  Now my baby hates me and thinks Mike Mangini is its real father!"

The intro samples are terrible. For this and The Great Debate, fwiw. I think I just figured out why I hate the news clips - they are samples from what sound like CNN or Fox News or whatever mainstream "news entertainment" channels are popular. Talking heads with no real discussion, and certainly not much room for debate other than sparring sound bites. I always think of DT as somehow smarter than most bands, and it disappoints me to hear such pedestrian news clips used.

Oh my god it's like I'm listening to that whole album through a piece of foam with a white noise generator in the background. I can't even tell if I like the song or not because I production was so fucking awful.
