Minecraft v. what have ya'll been up to 1.8 was released
« on: November 01, 2014, 10:42:32 PM »
So my friends and I have been working on a server since 1.8 came out. They generated the world with an elevated water level so we're building an entire city underwater. Here are some WIP shots, all done in survival mode.

A shot of the main hub, built over a Guardian lair:

The main entrance of the hub from the surface. Free enchanted armor is available to all new comers to get used to the underwater life:

The main room of the hub including the map room. This will be a train station eventually:

The Guardian grinder under the main room allowing for an unlimited supply of prismarine shards and crystals:

Connected to the hub is the network. Shown here is the Nether shop Nuthin' But Nether, which has by far my favorite design of all of the shops on the server:

Right down the network is the minimall, full of shops and stalls with villagers that specialize in selling almost everything you need:

The newest shop, Redio Shack, for all your redstone needs:

The bank vault, which contains personalized vaults for each player. The bedrock blocks have buttons lets players go to storage rooms only they can access:

Down one of the shadier corrdiors is one of my first projects, a pub called The Spittin' Seamen:

General shot from the water showing the apartment complex (left), bank (center), and hub (right):

Hub from further away just to get the scale. The hold in the foreground will be the future library:

Outside of the hub area is the housing mesa. To the right is the temple/church which was my first project:

Another general shot of the city. The building on the right is the greenhouse:

A shot from the ground level where the streets are under construction. The glass ceiling shows the minimall below:

The apartment complex I built for the server. The facade is still under construction but it has 8 apartments and a penthouse at the top:

The lobby of the apartment, which is in the network area we have underground. Complete design has not yet been determined:

A shot from inside of the apartment on the first floor from the courtyard looking up to all of the floors above:

The penthouse, my level, ground floor:

The penthouse second level bar area:

The bedroom of the penthouse and my pet rabbit:

View of the city from on top of the apartment building:

That stuff is insanely good.

A friend of mine got me to join an "adults only" server called WoodenAxe, and I'm really loving it, though I haven't officially been accepted yet and therefore cannot build. It's awesome though. I mean, just take a look at the livemap!

Note, it's actually a 1.7.4 server because Bukkit plugins  :lol

That livemap is awesome. Are those skyscrapers functional or just more for exterior design?

You can definitely go in them and climb all the way to the top. Also, if you want to join the server as a guest (you can only walk around and die, mobs won't go after you though), the server is world.woodenaxe.com

Impressive stuff man! I've been playing alone mostly. The server I was a part of mostly fell apart. I've also been trying to upload a Minecraft video on the YT channel every other day. I haven't really done anything worth showing off yet, but I'm still playing a lot.

Edit: @ orcus How was this done in survival when you have bedrock in your builds?

Bedrock is used from creative for special situations, mainly for anti-griefing measures. All of the materials for these buildings were mined, collected, and crafted in survival mode.

I just started up Minecraft again! My fiance and I are using as something to do together, like a big fun project. Building a house and farm and stuff to call our own. Distance is hard lol.

But 1.8 is a lot of fun they've added quite a bit it seems!

Some updates from our stadium build:

Here is where we started from:

Here is where we are now, the field wall completed and the first level of stands going in:

Here is a shot of the wall design with night vision:

And without night vision:

Damn. I love mega builds so much. I've never actually attempted one myself. That looks amazing.

It's not too bad, actually, just a little bit of grinding once you get a pattern set. The goal is to add two more levels and then a glasses dome on top with the city's logo in the center of the glass.

Are you using mods? How do you have 15 hearts? And it doesn't look like you ever spend your levels. haha

Nope, all vanilla but we have special armor set up with all kinds of attributes but it costs a lot of emerald. I think the set I'm using costs like 84 emerald blocks. We have a couple guys that know how to code in villagers that sell all kinds of items and we're working on balancing the economy so it's never super overpowered. There's even a caving potion that gives you Haste 2 for 50 minutes and with the e5 pick we have it chainsaws through any kind of ore. If you're good you can pull in 100-120 blocks of emerald after selling everything.

As far as I'm aware, the only way you get more hearts in Minecraft is through absorption in golden apples. But those hearts are yellow and limited to two. Also, there are no haste potions in vanilla Minecraft. I'm confused.

Command blocks. It allows you to code villagers, items, tools, etc. within the game.

Ahh yes. Okay. So it's vanilla but not full survival. I get it now.

Not that I think that's bad or anything. I was just so confused for a while. :lol That stuff on the server looks awesome. Can't wait to see more.

Don't think I've been on a multiplayer server in almost a year. The one I was on suddenly disappeared one day, and the people on it, who I frequently talked to on a forum, disappeared from the forum as well. Never got closure on that, which sucked because I had some big builds on there, and we were always super friendly and talkative for the three years we were playing together.

I think someone here had a server as well maybe two years back? I played a bit, but not much.
Hire me. I'm talentless but malleable.

We've decided to set up a seedy underground network. This poor guy is saddled up to the bar for eternity:

After a month or two of very limited on and off work, First Nautical Field is finally almost complete:

To get an idea of the scale, my friend is in the white armor perched on top of the dome to the left:

We're hoping to have a working fireworks display coming out of the stadium in the near future.
