Saw The Killers last night.
My better half likes them a lot. I think they have a handful of fantastic songs in a catalogue that generally doesn't quite work or connect for me. I like the last album, though. Miserable and moody. Really good.
BUT - the reason we bought tickets (before the pandemic - the show was rescheduled a couple of times) was that we saw their Glastonbury show on telly and was impressed with the charisma of Brandon and their drummer, Ronnie Vannuci Jr.
And wow, what a fucking live drummer. Beefy as fuck. Just pounds the shit out of that kit throughout, giving the band a massive, thick, heavy, rhythm backbone. They're not like Clutch (who are a top 3 band for me) but he's that kind of drummer. Not super technical but tasteful, heavy and just fantastic to listen to.
And the other thing that strikes me is that I've not got that meaty, heavy rock vibe from them on record at all. The drums are often very filtered/eq'd and not very natural or loose-sounding. I mean the first two albums are pretty stripped down but not with the same, solid, beefy vibe.
But yeah, great drummer.
