Exploring Birdsong - you need to hear this!
« on: May 22, 2024, 05:22:06 AM »
So, recently I came across this band "Exploring Birdsong", and you need to hear this! I hope hope hope they have a little bit of luck and "make it". Their Spotify bio simply says "piano driven" (they have no guitars), and while those two words kinda sums it up, their record label has a more thorough bio here: https://amfmusicpublishing.com/artists/exploring-birdsong/

Quote
Rarely are new groups as exciting, talented or unique as Exploring Birdsong, the piano-led guitarless trio from Liverpool. Straddling progressive rock, pop, and uncategorizable genreblending beauty, the band are riding high following the release of their 2019 debut EP The Thing With Feathers (Long Branch Records).

Rarely too do you hear voices as captivating as frontwoman Lynsey Ward’s. Powerful, controlled, and spine-chillingly tender, Lynsey’s vocals help mark Exploring Birdsong as a prospect to watch, not least in the band’s staggering ‘The Downpour’, described by the band as “our Great Gig In The Sky”. Also playing keyboards, she is backed by the jawdropping talents of Matt on drums/ percussion and Jonny on bass/second keyboards (sometimes playing both bass and keys simultaneously).

They have two EP's out, I've got them both and can't stop listening.

If you are more prog rock than prog metal, maybe leaning a bit towards the melodic pop sound, you really want to give these guys a listen.

As a teaser, try the song "The River" (link below). Happy listening!

Just having a listen now. This isn't totally my thing, but there's definitely people on the forum who would enjoy this band. I might save them to send in a roulette.

Love Exploring Birdsong...
Found out about them in 2020 in an issue of Prog.

Sampled the debut The Thing With Feathers when on a train.

Ordered the physical EP from bandcamp on my first listen.

Preorderd the second EP.

Longing for more from them....

I have the singles as downoads from

Another fan, that's awesome! I don't buy that many cd's these days, but I just had to get these EP's. I found them at SPV's website: https://store.spv.de/collections/exploring-birdsong-1

With shipping, import fees and VAT I ended up paying way too much for two EP's, but whatever. Hopefully some of that money will reach the band!

They recorded a cover of Deftones' "Diamond Eyes" about six months ago. I didn't know the original, but this cover is mesmerizing. Just listen to that last chorus. Those vocals, unreal. Linky: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AsVRJblr8O4

And this "No Longer We Lie", from the second EP, also floored me.

Consider me a fan! I really hope they'll release an album one day, and who knows, maybe a tour in my neck of the woods. I'd love to go see them.

I think they are working on more music....  but not sure

As for seeing them live.... if you live in England or travel there you have a chance.

Lynsey Ward sang on Caligulas Horse cover of Don't give up.

Holy crap, this is fantastic. I will be picking up both EP's and whatever else.
beul ni teh efac = Lube In The Face / That has to be wrong.  :lol / EDIT: Oh, it's Blue! I'm an idiot.
Pardon the interruption, but I just had to run in and celebrate the majesty of Lube in the Face as highest moment in roulette history
